Pay: $75.00 - $95.00 per hour
Job Description:
Full Stack Software Engineer — Contract (6 Months)
Automotive Titling Company (ATC) | Remote
Automotive Titling Company (ATC) is the leader in vehicle titling and registration — a massive, paper-heavy industry that's overdue for modernization. Backed by private equity and a leadership team committed to innovation, we're done patching old systems and ready to build something truly modern.
Right now, our engineering team is one person: our VP of Engineering. This contract role is a chance to help us stand up hire #2/#3 work product fast — building alongside a small, high-output team that will rebuild our tech stack and infuse AI throughout our products. You don't need to come in as an AI expert — just the hunger to use AI practically, at both the code and product level.
About This Engagement
This is a 6-month, full-time contract position, ideal for an engineer who wants to move fast on a well-defined, high-impact build without a long-term commitment. Depending on fit and business need, there may be an opportunity to extend or convert — but the initial scope is a focused 6-month engagement.
What You'll Build
- A modern platform from the ground up — we're designing a new stack (AWS, Node.js, Next.js) to replace decades-old processes with efficient, scalable solutions
- AI-native development — we're integrating AI coding tools like Claude Code to accelerate how we build
- Automation and integrations — help modernize how DMVs, dealers, and partners interact through APIs and real-time systems
- Scalable architecture — from day one, you'll make decisions that define how our platform evolves during and beyond this engagement
What This Role Looks Like
- Build and deploy production systems from day one
- Architect and own solutions end-to-end within the contract scope
- Move seamlessly between frontend and backend development
- Solve complex integration problems with state DMV systems and legacy data
- Collaborate directly with the VP of Engineering and Product
- Help shape technical direction during a critical early build phase
Who You Are
- You take ownership and pride in delivering production-ready code, even on a defined timeline
- You work well in dynamic environments and adapt quickly to new challenges
- You're curious about how AI can elevate development speed and quality
- You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams
- You're comfortable ramping quickly and delivering high-impact work within a fixed engagement window
What You Bring
Must-haves:
- 5–7 years of professional software development experience
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills (Node.js, React, or similar)
- API design and integration experience
- Cloud experience (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP translates well)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development
- Availability for a focused, full-time 6-month contract engagement
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Next.js
- Familiarity with .NET/C# (our legacy stack — useful for migrations)
- DevOps or infrastructure experience
- Background in startups or small, agile teams
- Prior contract/consulting experience delivering scoped work independently
