Produce Manager – Lakeshore Foods

Department: Produce

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Store CEO

Lakeshore Foods is seeking an experienced, customer‑focused Produce Manager to lead our Produce Department. This role is ideal for someone who loves fresh food, enjoys developing people, and thrives in a fast‑paced retail environment. You’ll oversee daily operations, ensure exceptional customer service, and maintain high standards of quality, freshness, and merchandising.

Responsibilities

Lead & Develop Your Team

Model outstanding customer service and coach team members to deliver a welcoming, helpful experience.

Train staff on safe equipment use, product handling, and customer-first service.

Build a positive, respectful work environment through communication, motivation, and fair supervision.

Address performance concerns and document coaching efforts as needed.

Collaborate with the Store CEO on policy issues or escalated team matters.

Drive Sales & Profitability

Order and maintain inventory to ensure freshness, quality, and proper product rotation.

Minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks through accurate ordering and communication.

Plan and execute seasonal merchandising strategies with Store CEO and Corporate.

Work with Scanning Coordinator to ensure pricing accuracy.

Reduce shrink through proper rotation, coding, and handling of damaged product.

Prepare and submit required reports and inventories on time.

Operational Excellence

Receive, inspect, and verify incoming product for quality and accuracy.

Follow proper procedures for pricing, stocking, and product rotation.

Maintain clean, safe, and appealing department conditions in compliance with health regulations.

Respond quickly to spills, hazards, and equipment issues.

Serve as the point of contact during health inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Customer Service

Greet customers, answer questions, and resolve concerns promptly.

Ensure the team is aware of weekly specials, promotions, and new items.

Foster a friendly, helpful environment where customers feel appreciated.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least 2 years of produce or supermarket experience; supervisory experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of produce varieties, quality indicators, and uses.

Ability to perform margin calculations, discounts, and basic retail math.

Strong communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, work in coolers, and handle fresh produce.

Flexibility to work varied shifts and respond to department needs.
