Program Assistant

Reports To: Director of Programmatic Operations
Location: Glenwood Springs, CO, with travel throughout LIFT-UP's service area (Parachute to Aspen)
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

About LIFT-UP

LIFT-UP has been serving Western Colorado since 1982, providing equitable food security to individuals and families from Parachute to Aspen. We operate five food pantries, a Mobile Market, Farm 2 Food Pantry, Extended Table community meals, senior food programs, emergency food distribution, and a regional warehouse that distributes more than 800,000 pounds of food annually. We believe every person deserves access to nutritious food with dignity, choice, and respect.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant is one of the most versatile positions at LIFT-UP. No two days look the same.

This role supports nearly every aspect of our food security programs, from helping guests at a pantry one day to organizing volunteers, assisting with events, auditing inventory, delivering food, supporting the warehouse, or serving meals through Extended Table the next.

We're looking for someone who enjoys variety, isn't afraid to jump in wherever they're needed, and genuinely cares about serving the community. Success in this position requires flexibility, initiative, strong organizational skills, and a positive attitude. If you're someone who sees a problem and immediately asks, "How can I help?" you'll fit right in.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Operations

Support daily operations across all LIFT-UP food programs.
Assist with food pantry coverage at multiple locations.
Help coordinate the Mobile Market and community food distributions.
Prepare and distribute 72-Hour Emergency Food Bags.
Assist with Everyday Eats and other specialty food programs.
Maintain accurate records using PantrySoft and other internal systems.

Warehouse & Inventory

Assist with receiving, sorting, stocking, and organizing food deliveries.
Help prepare pantry orders and Mobile Market inventory.
Conduct inventory counts and quality checks.
Assist with grocery rescue and food drive processing.
Maintain clean, organized warehouse and storage areas.
Help ensure food safety standards are met.

Auditing & Compliance

Perform regular inventory audits.
Assist with pantry and warehouse quality assurance.
Review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Support compliance with grant, USDA, and organizational requirements.
Identify process improvements and report discrepancies.

Extended Table

Help coordinate community meal programs.
Assist with meal preparation, setup, serving, and cleanup.
Support volunteer groups and partner organizations.
Ensure guests have a welcoming and respectful experience.

Volunteers & Community Engagement

Work alongside volunteers during distributions and warehouse shifts.
Help train and support new volunteers.
Represent LIFT-UP professionally in the community.
Assist with outreach activities and educational opportunities.

Events

Assist with fundraising and community events.
Help with setup, logistics, registration, and breakdown.
Support food drives and community engagement opportunities.
Occasionally work evenings and weekends for special events.

Administrative Support

Assist with data entry and reporting.
Complete other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
Comfortable working in warehouse, pantry, and outdoor environments.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, data entry).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while adapting to changing needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in nonprofit, food security, logistics, hospitality, or customer service.
Experience working with volunteers.
Spanish language skills are a plus.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility.

While the typical workweek is Monday through Friday, the schedule will vary based on program needs. Some early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends are required to support pantry operations, Extended Table, community events, food distributions, and special projects. Flexibility is an essential part of this role.

Physical Requirements

This position regularly requires:

Standing and walking for extended periods.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
Frequent bending, reaching, and loading/unloading food.
Working in warehouse, pantry, refrigerated, and outdoor environments.
Driving between program locations.
