Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator serves as the operational command center for MDK Zerolandfill's transportation - logistics network. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing all transportation activities while ensuring superior customer service, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and cost control.
As a critical positions within the organization, the Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing the movement of materials from suppliers to processing facilities and customers across the country. This individual works closely with sales, warehouse operations, accounting, maintenance, customers, vendors, and transportation partners to ensure every shipment is executed accurately, safely, and profitably.

Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Dispatch Management

Plan, schedule, and coordinate all inbound and outbound freight.

Optimize routing to maximize efficiency, minimize transportation costs, and improve equipment utilization.

Schedule pickups, deliveries, trailer exchanges, and customer service requests.

Coordinate company drivers and third-party carriers to ensure on-time service.

Monitor daily transportation activities and proactively resolve delays or service disruptions.

Balance freight opportunities with available equipment and driver capacity.

Maintain accurate driver schedules and dispatch records.
-
Ensure all dispatch documentation is complete prior to driver departure.

Prepare and distribute Bills of Lading, shipping documents, manifests, weight tickets, and required transportation paperwork.

Monitor shipment status from dispatch through final delivery.
Fleet & Equipment Coordination

Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for company trucks, trailers, forklifts, compactors, balers, and transportation equipment.

Work closely with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.

Track trailer locations and equipment utilization.

Schedule repairs and emergency maintenance when required.

Monitor fleet availability and communicate equipment needs to management.
Customer & Supplier Relations

Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related communication.

Provide timely updates regarding shipment status, pickup schedules, and delivery expectations.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers, carriers, and service providers.

Resolve transportation issues professionally while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Communicate effectively with all levels of management, operations personnel, warehouse staff, and customers.
Operational Excellence

Identify opportunities to reduce freight costs while improving service levels.

Analyze transportation trends and recommend process improvements.

Develop standardized dispatch procedures and best practices.

Continuously evaluate transportation efficiency, routing, scheduling, and equipment utilization.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain accurate transportation records and freight documentation.

Update dispatch software, spreadsheets, and transportation tracking systems.

Verify freight bills, invoices, weights, and shipment documentation for accuracy.

Reconcile transportation paperwork with accounting to ensure proper billing and payment.

Assist with month-end transportation reporting and operational metrics.

Track transportation costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Maintain organized electronic and physical transportation files.
Inventory & Operational Support

Assist with scheduled inventories and trailer audits.

Coordinate transportation activities with warehouse operations.

Monitor inventory movement to ensure timely customer service.

Assist sales personnel with transportation planning and customer logistics needs.

Support operational projects and special assignments as required.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety

Maintain working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Ensure transportation activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Verify drivers possess required documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of transportation dispatch, logistics coordination, fleet management, or transportation operations experience.

Experience coordinating multiple drivers, trailers, and customer schedules.
-
Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
-
Experience in the recycling, manufacturing, transportation, or industrial services industry is preferred.
