Full Job Description

Position Summary

Piggyback Rides, LLC is seeking an experienced Part time Operations Manager to oversee and coordinate daily transportation operations across multiple school districts, agency contracts, and specialized student routes throughout Connecticut.

This leadership role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all transportation services while supervising drivers, managing routing workflows, supporting agency relationships, and maintaining operational continuity.

The Operations Manager serves as the primary operational leader responsible for maintaining service excellence and supporting the company’s continued growth and transition into its next phase of expansion.

Minimum requirement: 2–5 years transportation operations experience (school transportation, logistics coordination, fleet coordination, routing management, or similar).
No exceptions.

Key Responsibilities : Transportation Operations Management

Oversee daily AM and PM route execution across all assigned transportation programs
Coordinate route coverage and driver assignments
Monitor attendance, route completion, and real-time service issues
Ensure compliance with school district, DCF, and agency transportation requirements
Support routing adjustments using routing platforms
Respond quickly to operational disruptions and emergencies

Driver Supervision & Support

Supervise drivers and monitors across multiple routes
Ensure drivers follow company safety protocols and procedures
Address lateness, attendance issues, and performance concerns
Support onboarding of new drivers
Monitor compliance with required certifications and documentation
Maintain strong driver morale and accountability

Compliance & Safety Oversight

Ensure company compliance with:

CT Student Transportation Vehicle (STV) requirements
DMV V-Endorsement driver eligibility standards
DOT physical tracking
background clearance documentation
agency transportation policies
daily vehicle inspection reporting
incident reporting procedures

Maintain readiness for audits at all times.

Agency & School Communication

Serve as operations liaison between Piggyback Rides and:

Boards of Education
Transportation coordinators
Parents/guardians when needed

Responsibilities include:

responding to transportation updates
resolving service concerns
coordinating route adjustments
ensuring professional communication standards

Scheduling & Dispatch Coordination

Manage route confirmations through Connecteam
Coordinate driver coverage for call-outs and absences
Support early dismissal adjustments
Maintain accurate communication between office and field staff
Ensure runs are confirmed daily and completed properly

Fleet Coordination Support

Work alongside ownership to:

monitor vehicle usage assignments
track inspection schedules
support maintenance coordination
ensure vehicles remain compliant and operational

Staff Leadership Responsibilities

Assist with hiring transportation drivers and monitors
Support training implementation
coach and mentor team members
help enforce company policies and procedures
maintain high service reliability standards

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

Provide weekly updates to ownership on:

route coverage performance
staffing needs
service disruptions
compliance issues
driver attendance trends
operational improvement opportunities

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2–5 years transportation operations experience required

Experience must include at least one of the following:

medical transportation
public passenger transportation
student transportation
school bus / STV coordination
logistics dispatch leadership
route scheduling oversight
fleet coordination environments

Candidates without transportation operations experience will not be considered.

Additional Requirements

Required:

valid driver’s license with clean driving history
reliable transportation
ability to travel between operational locations if needed
strong decision-making ability under pressure
strong written and verbal communication skills
high organizational ability

Technology Skills

Experience with:

Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs)
Excel
Word
scheduling software platforms
