AI & Automation Specialist
Industry: Residential Construction
Location: Monmouth County, NJ
Employment Type: Full-Time, In-Office
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated ability
About the Role
A growing residential construction company in New Jersey is looking for an AI & Automation Specialist whose primary responsibility will be to help build, implement, manage, and improve internal AI agents and AI-driven workflows.
The company is actively looking to bring more of its AI development in-house and needs someone who can take real business processes and turn them into practical, reliable AI-powered solutions.
This is a hands-on role for someone who has experience working with tools such as Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, AI agents, APIs, n8n, Make, Zapier, and similar automation platforms.
We are open to someone earlier in their career who may not have years of professional experience, provided they can demonstrate that they have actually built AI agents, automations, or other AI-powered workflows.
You do not need to be a machine learning engineer or senior software developer. We are looking for someone who is technically capable, resourceful, comfortable learning new tools, and able to take a business problem from idea to working AI solution.
While AI agents and automation will be the primary focus of this role, the person hired may also assist with other technology-related special projects and process improvement initiatives as business needs evolve.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build, test, deploy, maintain, and improve internal AI agents.
- Use Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and other large language models to develop AI-powered business solutions.
- Design agent workflows that can complete multi-step business processes.
- Create and refine prompts, system instructions, agent logic, and reusable AI workflows.
- Connect AI agents with existing business systems using APIs, webhooks, integrations, and automation platforms.
- Build AI agents that can interact with documents, spreadsheets, emails, forms, databases, project information, and other company systems.
- Use platforms such as n8n, Make, Zapier, or similar tools to support agent workflows and integrations.
- Test agents thoroughly before deployment and identify potential failure points.
- Monitor existing agents and troubleshoot issues when they do not perform as expected.
- Improve agent accuracy, reliability, and usability over time.
- Create appropriate human review or approval steps where necessary.
- Document how AI agents and automations are built and how they should be maintained.
- Work with employees and leadership to understand existing business processes and determine where AI agents could improve efficiency.
- Research new AI capabilities, tools, integrations, and agent frameworks that could benefit the company.
- Help employees understand how to properly use the AI tools and agents that are implemented.
Examples of AI Projects
Projects may include building agents that:
- Review project information and identify missing items or required follow-up.
- Monitor workflows and flag when something has been missed or delayed.
- Track outstanding approvals, decisions, documentation, or deadlines.
- Review incoming information and determine what action needs to be taken.
- Summarize information from multiple sources for employees.
- Generate internal updates and reports.
- Assist employees with drafting customer or internal communication.
- Organize and route incoming information.
- Pull information from internal documents and company procedures.
- Create internal AI assistants employees can use to quickly find information.
- Assist with repetitive administrative and operational tasks.
- Coordinate multi-step workflows across different systems.
Additional Responsibilities
The primary focus of this position will remain AI agents and AI automation.
As the role develops, the person hired may also assist leadership with other technology-focused special projects, including:
- Evaluating or implementing new software.
- Improving existing internal systems.
- Building non-AI workflow automations.
- Supporting process improvement initiatives.
- Developing solutions to unique operational problems.
What We're Looking For

Candidates with limited professional experience will still be considered if they can demonstrate strong hands-on ability building AI agents and automations.
Interview Process
The interview process will focus heavily on your hands-on experience building AI agents.
Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate at least one AI agent, AI-powered workflow, or automation they have personally built.
During the interview, you should be prepared to walk us through:
- The business problem or task the agent was designed to solve.
- Why you chose to use an AI agent for that problem.
- How the agent was structured.
- Which AI model and tools you used.
- How prompts and instructions were designed.
- How the agent interacted with other systems, data, or tools.
- Whether you used APIs, webhooks, MCP, n8n, Make, Zapier, or other integrations.
- How you handled multi-step actions or decision-making.
- How you tested the agent.
- What happened when the agent failed or produced an incorrect result.
- How you improved its reliability or accuracy.
- How you would maintain or monitor the agent after deployment.
The project does not need to come from a previous employer. Personal projects, freelance work, school projects, and independently built AI agents are welcome.
Candidates may also be given a sample business process and asked to explain how they would approach turning that process into an AI agent or automated workflow.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the development and implementation of AI agents within a growing residential construction company.
You will work directly with employees and leadership to understand real business problems and build AI solutions that are actually implemented and used.
For someone who is highly interested in AI agents, Claude, automation, and emerging technology, this role provides the opportunity to gain significant hands-on experience and play a major part in how the company develops its internal AI capabilities.
This is a confidential search. Additional company information will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process.
