Position Summary
The Pharmaceutical Facilities & Utilities Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of facility infrastructure and critical utility systems within our GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This contract-to-hire position will support HVAC, compressed air, boilers, purified water, and other building utility systems while assisting with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and facility improvement projects. The role is essential to ensuring safe, compliant, and uninterrupted facility operations as our manufacturing site continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of facility utility systems, including HVAC, chilled water, boilers, compressed air, steam, vacuum, purified water, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor critical utility systems to ensure reliable operation and compliance with GMP requirements.
- Assist with the maintenance and operation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring support systems.
- Coordinate and perform preventive maintenance activities on facility infrastructure and utility equipment.
- Respond to facility equipment alarms, utility failures, and emergency maintenance requests.
- Support qualification, commissioning, and validation activities for facility and utility systems as required.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors performing maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and facility improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company SOPs, GMP requirements, and safety regulations.
- Assist with facility modifications, renovations, and expansion projects.
- Support routine inspections by Quality, Regulatory, and external auditors.
- Participate in investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to facility and utility systems.
- Assist with general facility maintenance activities as needed.
- Be available to respond to after-hours emergencies and occasional weekend work when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Associate's degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of facilities or utilities maintenance experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of pharmaceutical utility systems
- Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on critical utility equipment.
- Familiarity with GMP, FDA, and OSHA regulations.
- Experience working with CMMS software for work orders and preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while working independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime or respond to emergencies as required.
Preferred Certifications
One or more of the following certifications is strongly preferred:
- EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification
- HVAC/R Technician Certification
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT)
- Certified Plant Maintenance Manager (CPMM)
- Boiler Operator Certification (where applicable)
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification
- Industrial Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Certification
- Building Operator Certification (BOC)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to wear required PPE and work safely around manufacturing equipment and utilities.
