Blue Hospitality operates a premier full-service luxury hotel located near MetLife Stadium and American Dream — one of the most active hospitality corridors in the region. The property features extensive amenities including event space, restaurant operations, pool facilities, and high-volume guest traffic.
As regional and international demand continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations and ensure the highest standards of safety, reliability, and guest comfort.
Position Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational performance of the hotel’s central plant and building systems.
This role oversees a team of six maintenance professionals and focuses exclusively on hotel engineering operations. Renovation projects, housekeeping, and concierge functions are managed separately.
The property includes:
- Commercial-grade chillers
- Boilers
- Cooling towers
- Two commercial kitchens
- Hydraulic lift systems
- Indoor/outdoor pool systems
- Full fire/life safety infrastructure
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong mechanical expertise and central plant experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesCentral Plant & Mechanical Systems
- Oversee operation and maintenance of commercial chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and HVAC infrastructure
- Maintain hydraulic lift systems and mechanical equipment
- Ensure proper functioning of pool mechanical systems and filtration
- Support mechanical systems serving two commercial kitchens
- Monitor system performance and energy efficiency
Plumbing & Building Systems
- Perform and supervise advanced plumbing repairs, including pipe replacement and system modifications
- Oversee maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems
- Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces meet luxury standards
- Conduct routine inspections to proactively address mechanical concerns
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Develop and manage a structured preventive maintenance program
- Maintain accurate logs, work orders, compliance documentation, and inspection records
- Ensure systems remain fully operational during high-occupancy and event-driven periods
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire/life safety codes, and local/state regulations
- Maintain inspection readiness and emergency response procedures
- Promote safe handling of tools, chemicals, and plant equipment
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, schedule, and support a team of six engineering professionals
- Prioritize work orders and emergency repairs
- Drive accountability, training, and operational discipline
Vendor Coordination
- Manage service contractors for specialized systems and inspections
- Monitor service agreements, warranties, and vendor performance
- Ensure third-party work meets operational standards
QualificationsRequired
- Valid NJ Black Seal Boiler Operator License (Required)
- 5+ years of hotel engineering or large-scale facilities experience
- Experience operating and maintaining commercial chillers, boilers, and cooling towers
- Strong plumbing expertise, including pipe repair and replacement
- Supervisory experience leading engineering teams
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and plant diagrams
Preferred
- Prior Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer experience in a full-service or luxury hotel
- Additional trade certifications
- OSHA training
- Experience managing central plant systems during high-demand occupancy
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $110,000 – $140,000, commensurate with experience
