Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences

Pay Range: $30.04 - $36.86 / hour

The Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Licensed Practical Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, provides focused, technical nursing care to clinical and office operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides and documents nursing care within the scope of practice for colorectal surgery patients in face-to-face and telephone encounters; provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status to the physician and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate and in a timely manner.
May be required to travel to offsite locations to assist providers during clinic hours, including Steeplechase Cancer Center.
Assists physicians and advanced practice nurse during scheduled office hours, including preparation and setup of clinic exam and procedure rooms for patient visits. Assists in office procedures. Reviews and prepares patient charts prior to office visits for essential paperwork and test results.
Places orders and obtains insurance precertification for prescribed clinical testing for special procedures (CT, MRI, Ultrasound etc.) Provide patients with results of prescribed clinical tests after discussing them with the appropriate physicians.
Coordinates pre-operative testing and medical clearance prior to surgical procedures. Calls patients to check in pre- and post-operatively.
Completes return to work/school letters and disability paperwork for patients.
Fosters an environment that nurtures collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect through effective communication as demonstrated by positive relationships with patients, family members/caregivers, RWJMS staff, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of healthcare that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered.
Maintains current licensure and actively engages in RWJMS organizational initiatives that create and maintain an internal environment that is safe, hazard-free, confidential, and comfortable for patients, family members/caregivers, and staff.
Applies the principles of professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of nursing practice.
Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Possession of a valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey is required. At least six (6) months of related experience is preferred. At least six (6) months of phone triage experience is preferred. The ability to function in a team environment is required, as are word processing and computer skills. Must be CPR certified.

Credential Required: Valid Registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey
Primary Source Verification: New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Board of Nursing, and University Verification service

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
