Examples of Duties

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a part-time, temporary hourly position working 25 hours per week for the Fall 2026 Semester. There is a possibility that this may be extended.

Compensation:

Pay is $30/hr.

Animal Facilities Responsibilities:

Provide daily care, and daily feeding, for all animal species used in research and teaching.
Handle the maintenance and scheduled cleaning of animal facilities.
Monitor animals daily for signs of illnesses, injuries, distress, and other health-related conditions. Record and report observations.
Maintain contact as needed with faculty, researchers, Dean, IACUC Chair, and Veterinarian
Monitor and adjust vivarium conditions such as temperature and humidity, and record.
Ensure areas of noncompliance with regulations are reported; daily animal census is recorded
Ensure the humane care and treatment of the animals
Schedule food orders and animal purchases
Pick up animals immediately after delivery and house in vivarium
Assist in general maintenance of the facilities
Schedule and monitor medical waste pickup
Maintain, repair, and inventory supplies and equipment as needed
Continue education and training in lab animal care

Psychology and Neuroscience Classroom and Lab Support Responsibilities:

Order, process, inventory, and maintain lab supplies and lab equipment as needed
Set up classroom demonstrations and experiments (animal and non-animal)
Maintain contact as needed with faculty, researchers, and the Dean
Provide support for research-related activities and equipment to lab students and faculty

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or other lab science, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability and willingness to work with a wide variety of animal species.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to learn and work with specialized Psychology and software and equipment (Eye tracking, EEG, GSR, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Certification by American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level is desirable, or 2 years of experience as a Laboratory Animal Caretaker with knowledge and experience handling laboratory animals.
