Full Job Description

Overview

The Assistant Program Director (Education Specialist) must be a dynamic individual who will have overall responsibility for the work environment. He/She must be innovative, creative, and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. The Assistant Program Director will be responsible, with the Program Director, for ensuring the programmatic quality and integrity of all activities. He/She must be equipped to work in and/or foster a team-oriented working environment that prioritizes the safety and security of all participants. The Assistant Program Director will provide support for program activities to ensure they best align with the agency’s mission, goals and objectives en route to attain academic remediation, reinforcement, and support outcomes. He/She will be responsible for ensuring programmatic quality and integrity of all assigned activities. The Assistant Program Director will serve as an advisory on all matters related to the content of program activities and activity outcomes. He/She must be willing to assist in the training and supervision of facilitators, Instructors, and Group Leaders at multiple sites when needed.

Responsibilities

Supervise and provide leadership support for program line staff
Assist with scheduling and implementation of all activities for staff
Participate in the identification, recruitment, and retention of participants
Ensure all data collecting documents/materials for program operation are collected at the end of each program day and submitted to the appropriate staff (Program Director/Data person)
Serve as the secondary liaison for school and other community entities and constituencies
Ensure program participants are engaged in daily activities and programming, as well as adhering to agency and program “Norms”
Support content planning and provide curriculum leadership for all activities at the site/program level
Work in collaboration with Program Leadership to identify themes and objectives for the program, as well as curriculum for activities aligned with regular school content, participants' interests, organization, and program goals/objectives and the agency’s mission
Identify and provide materials and resources for program line staff to support the implementation of activities
Facilitate staff developmental workshops in curriculum implementation
Assist line staff with lesson planning and preparation as needed
Work with program staff to monitor and support participants in their Academic growth and development
Attend regular staff meetings, training and workshops as required
Participate in all Organizational training sessions as required

Skills/Qualifications:

Ability to research, develop and modify lesson plans based on organizational and or program themes or initiatives
Experience in lesson-planning, project-based learning, curriculum planning, and experiential learning is highly preferred.

Significant practical experience in areas such as Social-Emotional Learning/Youth Development, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (Visual/Performing) or Math instruction/curriculum development for school-aged audiences is a plus.

Skilled in identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions.

Knowledge and comprehension of the NYS Department of Education Learning Standards (including Common Core Learning Standards) preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Significant leadership experience in instructional planning/curriculum development may satisfy educational requirements

Strong public speaking and writing skills

Solid training and facilitation skills

A team player with a demonstrated commitment to working with inner-city youth and young adults

Experience in word-processing, database computer software programs, and the Internet-based research

Organizational Fit

The ideal candidate possesses excellent written and oral communication skills and attends all mandatory staff meetings/training/conferences.
