About Futures Ignite:

Futures Ignite partners with schools to spark and propel bold college and career futures for every student. We work at the intersection of college access, career exploration, and youth leadership—ensuring that all students, particularly those from historically underserved communities, graduate with a clear, supported, and best-fit postsecondary plan. Our model is school-based, equity-driven, and deeply relational, embedding programming, advising, and real-world experiences directly into the high school journey.

Across our partner schools—including WHEELS, IN-Tech Academy, and Jonas Bronck Academy—students engage in a continuum of support from 9th through 12th grade. This includes academic preparation, hands-on career exposure, and leadership development. Through our Civic Science Leadership model, students study real environmental challenges, lead scientific research and peer education, improve the communities they call home, and build pathways to thrive in STEM, college, and career.

About the Role:

Futures Ignite is seeking a Civic Science Leadership Program Coordinator to lead the day-to-day facilitation of our Civic Science Leadership model, guiding students as they study environmental challenges in their neighborhoods, build scientific and leadership skills, and translate their findings into real community improvement. The Coordinator will be the primary facilitator for Civic Science Leadership programming, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry, youth leadership, and community advocacy. This role focuses on building deep relationships with students and school partners to ensure the successful implementation of our program model through hands-on, student-facing work. The Coordinator works across both tiers of our Civic Science Leadership model: training and mentoring a cohort of Core Leaders each year, and ensuring those Core Leaders are equipped to carry civic science out to the rest of the student body (Student Participants) through peer-led teach-ins, workshops, and events.

Full Responsibilities

Civic Science Program Facilitation: Study & Lead (70%)

● Implementation of FI’s Civic Science Leadership programming at partner school sites, including the Citizen Science Lab and Clean Air Green Corridor workshops

● Facilitate hands-on scientific research that teaches students to collect, analyze, and act on real environmental data in the communities they call home

● Recruit, train, and support a cohort of 20–40 Core Leaders per school each year in peer

leadership, hands-on scientific research, and community-based advocacy

● Facilitate Community Action Projects curriculum delivery, guiding students through youth-led public presentations and hands-on neighborhood improvement projects

● Train Core Leaders to independently design and facilitate the teach-ins, workshops, expos, and events that carry civic science to every other student at the school (Student Participants) — the mechanism through which a trained cohort of 20–40 students reaches the full student body

● Assist in preparing, maintaining, and inventorying all materials and gear relevant to programming

● Collaborate with partner school teachers to integrate FI programming into school-day and after-school experiences

● Support students in completing key program deliverables, including providing feedback and tracking their individual progress.

● Plan and facilitate student recognition efforts, including distributing certificates, organizing periodic celebrations, and presenting awards.

● Evaluation, Data & Partnership Coordination: Improve (15%)

● Lead data collection efforts across all program activities, including student participation, skill development outcomes, and civic science research findings

● Use Enroll, FI’s outcomes data platform, to track key performance indicators (KPIs) including participation rates, skill development, and postsecondary outcomes

● Support partnership coordination with our network of Civic Science Leadership

partners—including community-based organizations, city agencies, and summer program

partners—to enrich student learning.

● Coordinate work-based learning opportunities, including student matching, career preparation workshops, and collection of DOE liability and consent forms.

Community Engagement & Postsecondary Pathways: Thrive (15%)

● Support planning and execution of community science events and public activations, exploratory trips to postsecondary and STEM career sites, and other student exposure opportunities

● Coordinate ongoing Power Hours featuring environmental and STEM professionals in

collaboration with the Development Team and school partners

Minimum Qualifications

● 1+ years of proven teaching or facilitation experience with adolescent populations, particularly in high school or community settings

● Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Education, Urban Studies, or a related field

● Experience in civic science or science-based environmental programs — such as citizen

science, environmental justice, STEM education, or community-based environmental research

● Experience with data collection and outcomes tracking, including use of data management platforms, organizing program data, and reporting on key performance indicators

● Demonstrated ability to independently lead and own youth program execution end-to-end —from planning and facilitation through evaluation and reporting

● Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

● Commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion

● Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays as required by program events and student needs

Desired Qualifications

● Familiarity with NGSS, GIS, air quality monitoring tools, or other STEM technologies and their application in youth programming

● Knowledge of environmental justice issues in New York City, particularly in Washington Heights, Inwood, and the Bronx

● CPR/First Aid/AED certified or willingness to complete certification

● Spanish language proficiency preferred

● Ability to work Nights and Weekends to fulfill program needs.
