Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intake Specialist (OPWDD Pediatrics) to join our team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for pediatric patients with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs, coordinating intake processes and ensuring seamless communication between families, healthcare providers, and case management teams. Your expertise will help facilitate timely access to essential services and support positive health outcomes.

Duties

Conduct initial patient intake assessments for pediatric clients referred through OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) programs, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete
Gather comprehensive medical histories, including hospital experience, medical records, and discharge planning details
Collaborate with social workers, behavioral health specialists, and case managers to coordinate appropriate services tailored to each child's needs
Utilize medical coding skills such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes to accurately document diagnoses and procedures in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Manage patient records with meticulous attention to confidentiality and medical terminology accuracy
Assist families in navigating healthcare systems, explaining procedures, and scheduling appointments or follow-up care
Maintain detailed logs of intake activities, follow-ups, and case management notes to support ongoing patient care

Requirements

Prior experience working in hospital settings or acute care environments preferred
Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical terminology
Experience with social work or behavioral health services for pediatric populations highly desirable
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards
Excellent communication skills for engaging with families, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Knowledge of discharge planning processes and medical records management
Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
