Full Job Description

Overview
Large labor union in search of a multi-talented, detail-oriented professional to join a busy communications department. Must be a self-starter.

We are a small team who works closely together to produce all outgoing written and graphic materials, from departmental newsletters, a twice-yearly magazine and event flyers to social media posts, signage for rallies and stories for the organization's website.

This job requires someone who is versatile and works well under pressure--we are looking for candidates who are adept at producing photos and videos of a press conference or a cultural event in a timely manner, strong writers and editors who can craft anything from a speech to a tweet and have proficiency in graphic design. Professional writing experience required.

Journalism and/or labor experience a plus.

40 hour/week minimum with some nights, weekends, holidays.

Duties

Write clear and engaging website stories, social media posts and press releases.
Proofread all materials for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to AP style guidelines before publication.
Prepare speeches for organizational leaders.
Photograph and produce videos of a wide variety of events, from dinners to court appearances.
Design graphics for web and print
Minimum 40 hour work week with some evening, weekend and holiday assignments.

Qualifications

Five years of experience in journalism, public relations or related fields.
Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong command of AP style.
Strong research skills to gather relevant information efficiently.
Experience creating engaging social media posts.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality graphics, photos and video.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Demonstrated attention to detail with proofreading expertise.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
