Our Long Island City facility supports machining, inspection, assembly, testing, documentation, and production activities for standard and custom valve products.
Role Description
Williams Valve is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Quality Specialist to support both Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities at our Long Island City manufacturing facility.
This is a shop-floor-focused position for someone who is comfortable inspecting machined and assembled components, reading mechanical drawings, using precision measuring equipment, investigating quality issues, and improving manufacturing procedures.
The successful candidate will spend significant time working directly with machinists, assemblers, welders, engineers, production personnel, and management.
Valve experience is helpful but is not required. Candidates with relevant experience in machine shops, industrial equipment, aerospace, defense, automotive, metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, pumps, pressure equipment, or similar manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.
Reporting to Domestic Quality Manager, the Quality Control Specialist plays a pivotal role in helping facilitate the growth and execution of domestic production based out of Long Island City, NY.

Core Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, final, and outgoing inspections of machined components, castings, assemblies, and soft goods.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, specifications, tolerances, notes, and inspection requirements.
- Verify dimensions and product characteristics using calibrated inspection equipment.
- Use tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, bore gauges, pin gauges, surface plates, pressure gauges, and other mechanical inspection devices.
- Inspect machining, assembly, welding, testing, and manufacturing processes for compliance with approved procedures and requirements.
- Maintain an active daily presence on the shop floor and work directly with machinists, assemblers, welders, inspectors, engineers, and supervisors.
- Identify, document, segregate, and control nonconforming material.
- Initiate and manage nonconformance reports through review, disposition, rework, repair, return, or rejection.
- Verify that nonconforming products are placed on hold and that only acceptable products are released for shipment.
- Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions using structured problem-solving methods.
- Identify recurring defects, process weaknesses, documentation gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Draft, revise, and implement inspection procedures, work instructions, checklists, forms, and quality records.
- · Support continuous-improvement activities involving inspection methods, manufacturing processes, documentation, traceability, and product flow.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure inspection and test equipment remains properly identified, controlled, calibrated, and suitable for use.
- Review material certifications, inspection reports, test records, traceability documents, and supplier documentation.
- Communicate quality concerns promptly and clearly to Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Management.
- Document inspection results, audit findings, corrective actions, and quality issues accurately.
- Support internal audits and ISO 9001 quality-management-system activities.
- Assist with supplier-quality and customer-quality issues when required.
- Participate in first-article, source, receiving, in-process, and final inspections as applicable.
- Support pressure testing, visual inspection, liquid penetrant testing, and other inspection activities based on qualifications and customer requirements.
Key Criteria/Requirements
- At least five years of quality-control, quality-assurance, inspection, machining, manufacturing, or related mechanical-product experience.
- Direct experience working in a machine shop, metalworking facility, mechanical assembly operation, or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, specifications, and dimensional tolerances.
- Hands-on experience using mechanical measuring and inspection equipment.
- Experience inspecting machined metal components and mechanical assemblies.
- Experience identifying and documenting nonconforming material.
- Familiarity with root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to write or revise procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and quality records.
- Understanding of calibration-control requirements for measuring and test equipment.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or a comparable manufacturing quality-management system.
- Ability to communicate effectively with machinists, production employees, engineers, managers, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize quality issues, and follow problems through final resolution.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and related business software.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
- Ability to qualify as a U.S. Person under applicable ITAR and U.S. export-control regulations.
Technical Requirements
- Experience inspecting valves, pumps, pressure-containing equipment, piping components, or similar mechanical products.
- Experience inspecting castings, forgings, weldments, elastomers, gaskets, seals, packing, diaphragms, or other soft goods.
- Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience with first-article inspection, inspection planning, or manufacturing routers.
- Experience with ASME, ASTM, military, Navy, or customer-specific technical requirements.
- Experience with pressure testing, welding inspection, or casting inspection.
- Experience with supplier-quality activities.
- Experience with corrective and preventive action systems.
- Experience with Smartsheet or similar project-management software.
- Current ASTM liquid penetrant Level II certification or an equivalent applicable certification.
Physical and Work-Environment Requirements:
- This position requires regular work in an active machine shop and manufacturing environment.
- The employee must be able to:
- Spend significant time standing and walking on the production floor.
- Work around machine tools, metal components, assembly operations, testing equipment, noise, oils, and industrial processes.
- Bend, reach, crouch, and work in various physical positions while inspecting products.
- Safely lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Meet applicable visual-acuity requirements for inspection and nondestructive-testing activities which include ASNT SNT-TC-1A (or other applicable industry standards, such as NAS 410, as required by customer or regulatory specifications)
