MUSEUM EDUCATOR
Museum of the Moving Image seeks well-spoken and outgoing individuals with excellent customer service skills who enjoy working with all ages to join its Media Education department. Museum Educators lead tours, workshops, and courses in moving image education, and work between 8–20 hours per week from Wednesday to Sunday, mornings and afternoons. Hours are flexible, and may vary from week to week. This is a non-exempt position. Museum Educators report to the Director of Education and managerial staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Deliver education programs including guided tours, workshops, and screening programs to student groups of all needs and abilities, grades 2 through college, as well as adults and senior citizens
Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive museum-going experience for all visitors
Facilitate weekend/holiday family workshops and Moving Image Studio (a drop-in workshop) activities
Attend regular meetings of the Education department
Additional responsibilities may include assisting Museum instructors with after-school courses, both on-site and off-site; assisting at special events; and serving as a Museum representative for various off-site activities as needed
Other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Undergraduate work or degree in education, game design, film, digital art, media studies, history, or related field
Previous experience working with young people strongly preferred
Previous experience with object-based and inquiry-based learning is a plus
A friendly, courteous, and visitor-focused demeanor
Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production a plus
Available a minimum of two weekday mornings (Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday) per week

SENIOR EDUCATOR - Full Tim e
The Senior Educator leads the teaching and supervision of educational programs, providing floor management and administrative support with reservations and communication between group tour leaders and staff. This position involves curriculum development and evaluation for the department’s informal learning programs, including but not limited to museum internship programs, school tours, workshops, group visits, after-school and summer courses, and weekend workshops. The Museum seeks excellent, well-spoken, and outgoing individuals with superb customer service skills and a proven track record of teaching all ages to assist with managing the Education Department. The Senior Educator works 40 hours per week between Tuesday and Saturday. This is a non-exempt position. The Senior Educator reports to the Education Manager.
Responsibilities include:
Delivery of education programs, including guided tours, workshops, and screening programs to student groups of all needs and abilities, grades 2 through college, as well as adults and senior citizens.
Providing excellent customer service and ensuring a positive museum-going experience for all visitors.
Assisting the Education Manager with reservations and the Education Coordinator with museum internship logistics.
Regular maintenance and evaluation of equipment, curriculum, software, and education materials.
Assistance with mentoring, evaluation, and training of part-time and contract educators and instructors.
Collaborating with other members of the Education department to develop ongoing programmatic strategy and to assist in the development and implementation of education programs, including but not limited to specialized family workshops, classes, and camps, and gallery activities relating to permanent and special exhibitions;
Planning and coordination of professional development for NYC teachers and school administrators;
Working with the School & Community Programs Manager to ensure the smooth operation of school group visits.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Undergraduate work or degree in education, film, media studies, history, or related field.
Previous experience working with young people in a museum and school setting as a lead educator; 3 or more years preferred.
Previous experience with designing and implementing curriculum for object-based and inquiry-based learning.
Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reservations systems.
Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production.
Leadership experience in digital education and/or digital media production settings preferred.
Available to work weekends and some weekdays.
