JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:

Laboratory Histology Technologist (Night Shift)

Department:

Pathology

Reports To:

Pathologist

FLSA Status:

Hourly - amount TBD based on experience

Position Summary: Perform routine histology processing of G.I. biopsies. Responsible for clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Responsibilities:

Prepare biopsy tissue for histological processing
Process, embeds, and sections tissues for slides
Reconciliation of biopsy specimens; assures appropriate specimen accessioning reconciles specimen labeling of logs, containers, blocks, and requisitions, according to written procedures
Dissection of specimens; prepares appropriate tissue for histological processing. Correlates specimen information with the laboratory pathologist as needed
Gross description; accurately dictates gross description according to designated protocols and templates. Includes all relevant details in the gross description including color, measurement, and number of pieces, shape, and weight. Reviews gross description to ensure accuracy and completion.

Requirements:

-Licensed by New York State Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and/or Pathologists’ Assistant, required.
-One year required experience in a surgical pathology laboratory including gross description and dictation of surgical biopsy specimens
-Night shift availability only.

Language Ability:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
