Aquatics Director

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for providing direct leadership to the Middletown Aquatics Department. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable in water safety and aquatics best practices. The Aquatics Director will intentionally foster a cause-centered culture that is welcoming while managing high-quality, safe, and member-focused programs. This position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission of the YMCA of Middletown is conveyed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or a minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience required.
Minimum age requirement of 21.
Five (5) years of experience implementing and managing high-quality, large-volume aquatic programs.
Ability to obtain Background/Child Abuse clearances and training immediately upon hire.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Advanced knowledge of aquatic best practices, operations, and industry trends.
Must be a self-motivated, hands-on team leader with strong communication, networking, and collaboration skills.
High level of attention to detail and quality of programming, service, and facilities.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated success in driving revenue and managing expenses.
Experience in fundraising and individual gift solicitation and cultivation.
Must possess current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Standard First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and extensive swim lesson experience.
Must possess or obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six months of hire.

Essential Functions

Oversee all swim lesson programming and ensure curriculum quality and instructor consistency.
Establish new programs and expand aquatic offerings to increase swim lesson enrollment.
Develop strategies to increase member participation and retention.
Direct and supervise aquatics program activities to meet the needs of members and the YMCA, including summer day camp, birthday parties, and group rentals.
Ensure compliance with YMCA aquatics safety standards and Red Cross requirements.
Conduct swim lessons and lifeguard on a daily basis as operationally necessary.
Teach First Aid and CPR training classes for members and staff as scheduled.
Provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
Work closely with the Association team and branch leadership to ensure an exceptional member experience.
Direct and manage the YMCA Barracudas Swim Team, including program development, coach supervision, scheduling, budgeting, athlete and parent communication, and support for swim meets and competitive operations.
Assist in various YMCA and community events and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Assist with the annual fundraising campaign through events, staff engagement, and donor participation.
Update seasonal pool schedules and program session information.
Maintain accurate department records for vendors and staff.
Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct aquatics team and volunteers. Build a culture of accountability and recognition.
Review and evaluate staff performance.
Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve departmental goals.
Ensure staff certifications remain current and complete.
Monitor programs for quality and ensure the safety of all participants.
Monitor daily pool operations to ensure compliance with all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Conduct and oversee proper maintenance of pools and aquatic facilities.
Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
Oversee pool water quality and mechanical systems in accordance with CPO standards.
Ensure first aid equipment and supplies are stocked and up to date.
Assist in the marketing and promotion of aquatics programs and branch initiatives.
Develop and monitor the department budget to meet fiscal objectives.
Respond to member and community inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Attend all required meetings and trainings.
Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and special events to met operational needs.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for extended periods.
Must be able to bend and stoop frequently.
Must be able to lift at least twenty-five (25) pounds.
Must be able to remain in the pool for extended periods.
Must be able to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel in person and over the telephone.
Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including while in the water, despite significant background noise.

Pay: $63,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
