THE POSITION
As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure that drivers are prepared to operate their vehicles safely. This position allows you to use your judgment, communication skills, and attention to detail to guide applicants through testing and licensing. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the safe licensing of drivers by conducting examinations and reviewing identity documents. It helps protect against fraud while assisting customers through the licensing process. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:
- Driver Testing: Administer road, skills and knowledge examinations for commercial, and non-commercial applicants
- Vision Screening: Perform telebinocular and color perception tests to assess visual capability
- Identity Review: Examine documents and use databases to confirm authenticity and prevent fraud
- Application Processing: Issue licenses and identification cards and enter results into required systems
- Customer Guidance: Explain procedures and provide information about renewals, transfers and license options
- Regulation Compliance: Follow REAL ID rules, fee waiver guidelines, and customer service standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel as needed
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
