NOT- FOR- PROFIT GRANT ACCOUNTANT

Grant Accountant – New York

General Summary

A midsize Not-for-Profit Organization in NY is looking for an experienced grant accountant to join their dynamic accounting team.

This individual will join a team of 3 grant accountants

supervised by the Grant Accountant Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Federal and State post award grant accounting including, but not limited to submission of financial reports and invoices, financial monitoring and analysis, support audit, and ensuring financial compliance with funding source regulations.

The candidate will focus on details, thrive on collaboration, and welcome innovation.

Responsibilities

Prepare and submit accurate and timely monthly invoices or financial reports for the federal, state and local funding agencies.
Perform monthly grant financial data analysis to identify budget variances and address concerns.
Reconcile budget to actual expenses every quarter and prepare justification for

variances.

Meet deadlines for the monthly and annual closing process.
Maintain meticulous and organized grant invoices and financial reports.
Assist with grant-related audits by providing documentation.
Assist the auditors during their field work and analysis.
Submit budgets, modifications, amendments, close-outs, worksheets, and schedules to ensure timely reimbursement.
Ensure all accounting work is performed in compliance with GAAP, internal agency, and grant funding guidelines and requirements.
Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 3 years of non-profit grant

accounting experience.

Previous non-profit fiscal experience working with HUD, DOL, Department of Veterans Affairs, OMH, OTDA, CWE, DYCD grants.
Experience preparing and submitting grant-funded invoices and financial reports.
Experience with Federal and State grant systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Fund EZ.
Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets.
Ability to work independently, meet aggressive deadlines, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
Ability to follow through on work assignments.
Ability to collaborate with other members of the team.
Ability to run and understand financial reports.
Ability to explain financial data and concepts to non-financial staff.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Able to embrace and manage change.
Stay abreast of changes in grant accounting standards and best practices.
Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
Highly motivated and results-driven.
