Full Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position requires a very dedicated and flexible urban educator who is willing to go above and beyond to connect with students and lead adults. The daily goal of this position is to ensure that each student receives a high quality educational experience in this at Weequahic High School, "Where Achievement is Realistic, Obtainable & Infinite."

Located in the city's South Ward, Weequahic High School has a long pride and tradition that must be upheld in order to guide students to successful realms of achievement. This school administrator position will require leadership of staff and students grades 9-12 with the expectation of providing cultural insight and awareness through special projects to boost the overall climate and atmosphere of the school community.

Newark Board of Education Department Chairperson encompass the district's vision and under direction will assist in the planning, organizing, and supervision of the day-to-day operations of a school; provide leadership and assistance to teachers in the implementation of educational programs, activities, curriculum guidelines, and all other instructional objectives as defined by the Principal in charge; and perform all other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
New Jersey Department of Education Supervisor Certificate, OR New Jersey Department of Education Standard Principal Certificate.
New Jersey Department of Education Certificate in Supervisor (0106) OR 0200 Principal Standard (0200).
Minimum of three (3) years successful experience in teaching the related content area or related experience.
Knowledge of New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitates the growth and development of teachers working collaboratively with peers.
Assists teachers in alignment, articulation, integration, and implementation of curriculum through and across grade levels.
Teaches demonstration lessons in classrooms and serves as a peer coach and mentor for staff in reciprocal relationships.
Provides teachers the opportunity to develop effective instructional techniques, strategies and professional behaviors.
Assumes responsibility to attend and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
Provides teachers with the opportunity to enhance knowledge of content and management skills.
Analyzes and communicates student assessment data, and makes program recommendations based on the analysis of available data.
Provides reports on the progress of program initiatives.
Performs other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment as assigned by the Principal.
Monitors implementation of the school district’s approved content program in accordance with the needs of students.
Assumes responsibility to attend and participate in in-service workshops.
Assists the classroom teacher and teacher aides in the creative use of new technological equipment and supplementary materials.
Assists in the coordination and implementation of school programs.
Assists in the planning and organization of school program goals and objectives, teacher and student school schedules, and state and district tests and other assessment programs.
As assigned, plans and authorizes all assembly programs.
Prepares/writes other reports and literature relative to school programs, goals, and objectives.
Performs classroom observations and other instructional activities.
Assists in the supervision of instructional and non-instructional personnel.
As assigned, signs and verifies accident reports.
As assigned, evaluates/investigates complaints.
Maintains files and records for circulars, bulletins, statistical data and reports, unsatisfactory performance ratings, and school inventory.
Attends parent conferences and faculty meetings.
Attends/participates in grade level meetings.
Attends District/Region-sponsored vice principal meetings, workshops, and other training sessions.
Confers with Principal, teachers, parents, students, and the stakeholders.
Performs all other related duties as required.

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD, AND UNION AFFILIATION

Salary Range: $90,000- $123,500
Employment Period: Eleven (11) Months
Union Affiliation: CASA

*Salary may be subject to change pending contract negotiations
