TREASURER, VILLAGE OF PITTSFORD
The Village of Pittsford seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, and service-minded Treasurer to oversee and manage the Village’s financial operations. This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining the fiscal integrity of the organization through responsible stewardship of public funds, financial reporting, budgeting support, and compliance with municipal accounting requirements.
The Treasurer works closely with the Mayor, Board of Trustees, Village Clerk, auditors, and external partners to support sound financial decision-making and efficient municipal operations.
As part of a planned leadership transition, the selected candidate will benefit from a structured onboarding period and training overlap with the retiring Deputy Treasurer to support continuity of operations and a successful knowledge transfer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee the collection, safeguarding, investment, and disbursement of Village funds.
· Manage daily cash receipts, deposits, and reconciliation activities across all Village accounts.
· Administer accounts payable processes including invoice review, coding, voucher preparation, payment processing, and cash transfers.
· Monitor cash flow and maintain adequate liquidity to support Village operations.
· Manage investment activities and maintain relationships with financial institutions to maximize returns within applicable policies and regulations.
· Administer property tax billing, payment processing, reporting, and coordination with Monroe County.
· Oversee sewer billing operations including account maintenance, usage imports, collections, penalties, and reporting.
· Maintain accurate records for grants, insurance reimbursements, sales tax distributions, and other revenue sources.
· Maintain accounting records and supporting schedules for all Village funds.
· Complete monthly financial processing including cash receipts, disbursements, payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including trial balances, balance sheets, revenue and expenditure reports, and fund balance analysis.
· Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts.
· Assist auditors and prepare supporting documentation for annual financial reporting requirements, including the Annual Update Document (AUD).
· Maintain depreciation and capital asset records as required.
· Assist the Mayor and Board of Trustees with annual budget preparation and supporting financial analysis.
· Support public budget meetings, notices, and budget adoption processes.
· Review payroll submissions and related financial transactions.
· Provide support for tax searches and special financial reporting requests.
· Serve as backup to the Village Clerk and assist with general office operations when needed.
· Provide responsive and professional service to residents, elected officials, and stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Associate degree or completion of at least two (2) years of college-level coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
· Accounting, bookkeeping, treasury operations, municipal finance, governmental accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a public-facing environment.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· High ethical standards, integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
· Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
· Knowledge of fund accounting principles.
· Experience with municipal financial systems, including Williamson Law Book software.
Compensation: $64,000 - $75,000
Benefits: Health and dental insurance coverage for employees and eligible dependents, as well as participation in the New York State and Local Retirement System. Employees may also participate in an optional deferred compensation plan to enhance their retirement savings. In addition, the Village provides paid time off benefits, including vacation and sick leave.
