Prep Cook

Mortadella Head – Newport, RI
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 hr (Depending on experience)

Mortadella Head isn’t your average Italian sandwich shop—and our kitchen isn’t interested in average food.

We’re known for massive Italian-American sandwiches, Roman-style pizza, homemade meatballs, lasagna, chicken cutlets, sauces, and the kind of food people keep thinking about long after they leave.

We’re looking for a dependable and hardworking Prep Cook who takes pride in doing things the right way. You’ll help prepare the ingredients that keep our kitchen moving and make sure our team is ready to deliver great food every day.

No shortcuts. No sad sandwiches. Just great food made by good people.

What You’ll Be Doing

Preparing ingredients according to Mortadella Head recipes and specifications
Slicing meats, cheeses, vegetables, and other ingredients
Preparing sauces, dressings, meatballs, chicken cutlets, and other menu items
Portioning and labeling food accurately
Following daily prep lists and completing tasks on time
Setting up the kitchen team for a smooth and successful service
Checking food quality, freshness, and portion sizes
Rotating products using proper FIFO procedures
Keeping prep stations, equipment, coolers, and storage areas clean and organized
Washing dishes, utensils, cutting boards, and kitchen equipment as needed
Following all food safety, sanitation, and allergen procedures
Communicating with managers and cooks when ingredients or supplies are running low
Helping the rest of the kitchen team whenever needed

Previous kitchen or food preparation experience is helpful, but we’re willing to train someone who has a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements

This position may require you to:

Stand and move around for most of your shift
Bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive tasks
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Safely use knives, slicers, mixers, ovens, and other kitchen equipment
Work around hot equipment, cold storage areas, and wet surfaces
Work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
