Ironworkers Local 28 is actively recruiting experienced Journeyman Ironworkers for work throughout the Hampton Roads area.
We're looking for skilled, dependable Ironworkers who are ready to put their experience to work on a variety of commercial, industrial, structural, marine, and shipyard projects.
One of our biggest current needs is experienced Ironworkers for structural construction and maintenance work within the shipyard environment.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for Journeyman-level Ironworkers with experience in one or more of the following:
- Structural steel erection and connection
- Structural steel construction and maintenance
- Stick (SMAW) and Flux-Core (FCAW) welding
- Rigging, hoisting, and crane signaling
- Steel fabrication and shop work
- Industrial construction and maintenance
- Marine and shipyard work
- Commercial construction
- Bridge and infrastructure work
Shipyard experience is a strong plus, but it is not required. If you're a skilled Journeyman Ironworker with the right experience and work ethic, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
Depending on the project, Ironworkers may be responsible for:
- Erecting, connecting, fitting, bolting, and welding structural steel
- Performing structural construction and maintenance in shipyard environments
- Installing decking, joists, stairs, ladders, handrails, and other steel components
- Rigging and hoisting structural steel and equipment
- Signaling cranes and working with crane operators
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and layout information
- Performing layout, fabrication, cutting, grinding, and other hot work
- Working safely at heights and in industrial and marine environments
- Following OSHA requirements, contractor safety procedures, and jobsite safety standards

Qualifications
- 4+ years of Ironworker experience
- Journeyman-level knowledge and skills
- Experience with structural steel erection, welding, rigging, fabrication, or industrial work
- Ability to work safely and productively in demanding jobsite environments
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
- Ability to pass required drug screening
It's a Plus If You Have
- Shipyard or marine construction experience
- Industrial construction or maintenance experience
- Current welding certifications
- Structural welding experience
- Rigging and crane signaling experience
- Bridge or heavy structural steel experience
- Experience working in confined or industrial environments
Tools
Applicants should have the basic tools of the trade, including:
- Spud wrench
- Sleever bar
- Bull pins
- Tape measure
- Welding hood
Additional tools or equipment may be required depending on the project.
Some projects may require a background check and/or additional site-specific qualifications.
