We are seeking candidates for an upcoming opening in the Custodial Supervisor role. This is a working supervisor position. In addition to leading and supervising the team, the incumbent is expected to work alongside staff and actively participate in daily operations.
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring 40 hours per week. It is exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Custodial Services Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
JOB SUMMARY: The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising daily custodial operations to ensure facilities are maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming condition for employees, visitors, and the public. This hands-on working supervisor position leads, trains, and supports custodial staff while actively participating in cleaning and facility maintenance activities as needed. The position is accountable for assigning and monitoring work, conducting quality inspections, maintaining service standards, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures and departmental objectives. The Custodial Services Supervisor fosters a culture of teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement while ensuring the efficient use of staff, equipment, and resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and implements the custodial maintenance management plan for the Aquarium.
2. Supervises, coordinates, and participates in daily custodial operations, working side by side with custodial staff to ensure cleaning, sanitation, and facility maintenance standards are consistently met.
3. Provides training and coaching, monitors performance, and promotes a safe, productive, and customer-focused work environment while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
4. Conducts routine inspections and quality audits of custodial routes, assignments, and completed work
5. Identifies the tools, equipment, and supplies required for completing custodial tasks. Prepares preliminary budget estimates. Implements approved budget effectively. Identifies vendors and negotiates orders and deliveries in accordance with Aquarium procedures.
6. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises custodial staff. Prepares annual performance appraisals as appropriate.
7. Supervises and participates in the performance of custodial tasks, including, but not limited to:
a. Floor cleaning in exhibit areas, offices, food service areas, restrooms, stairways, and storerooms by sweeping, mopping, polishing, and vacuuming.
b. Washes, dusts, waxes, and polishes fixtures and furniture.
c. Empties trash containers, waste baskets, and recycling bins.
d. Washes walls, doors, windows, mirrors, and fixtures.
e. Cleans and polishes acrylic exhibit tank viewing windows.
f. Restocks restroom supplies.
8. Maintains records and prepares reports, as needed.
9. Operates hand and power tools and maintains them in clean, good working order.
10. Follows safety practices and rules on all tasks.
11. Sets up and tears down tables and seating for various events and meetings.
12. Performs special tasks and assists other Aquarium functions in a variety of ways.
13. Participates on Aquarium committees as a Custodial Department Representative. Contributes as appropriate, and acts as liaison between the department and committee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervises all Staff Custodians
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Minimum levels)
High school equivalency required. Vocational training or certification in a related field is preferred. Minimum of five years of custodial experience in high traffic facilities. Two years in a supervisory capacity desirable.
Current First Aid and CPR certification is required. Ability to obtain and hold valid Oregon Driver’s License required. Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and in a team environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is a hands-on working supervisor position that requires active participation in custodial duties in addition to supervisory responsibilities. Frequently stands and walks for extended periods while inspecting facilities, monitoring work progress, and performing custodial tasks. Regularly bends, stoops, kneels, crouches, twists, reaches, climbs, and works in confined or difficult-to-access areas. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls custodial equipment, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional team lifting or mechanical assistance for heavier items.
Regularly traverses multiple buildings, floors, stairways, and outdoor areas during inspections and completion of assigned work. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate cleaning equipment, handle tools, prepare reports, and use computers and mobile devices. May be required to work from ladders or step stools and perform tasks at varying heights in accordance with established safety procedures. Regularly works around cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, moisture, noise, and other environmental conditions commonly associated with custodial operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including offices, public facilities, restrooms, storage areas, mechanical spaces, and grounds. The position requires the ability to safely perform custodial and supervisory duties while maintaining compliance with applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position is based on-site and requires a regular schedule of 40 hours per week. Compliance with appropriate company standards is required. May be required to respond to emergency cleaning situations and work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or under adverse weather conditions as operational needs dictate.
