Seasonal Information Technology Intern - NFWB
Position Summary
The Seasonal Information Technology Intern supports the Information Technology Department by assisting with technology initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in a municipal utility environment. The intern will contribute to network upgrades, system deployments, cybersecurity initiatives, disaster recovery and business continuity planning, and other technology projects. In addition, the intern will have exposure to IT Department functions such as providing technical support to end users, assist with equipment deployments, and maintaining system documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist with troubleshooting and resolving routine technology-related problems.
· Gain experience alongside IT Systems Engineers as they deploy, configure, image, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
· Assist with IT asset inventory management, tracking, and documentation.
· Support network infrastructure projects, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
· Assist with system implementation, testing, and deployment efforts.
· Participate in cybersecurity initiatives, including security monitoring, software updates, endpoint protection, and user awareness activities.
· Assist with disaster recovery and business continuity planning efforts.
· As projects require, create and maintain technical documentation, inventory records, system configurations, and procedures.
· Learn to support Microsoft 365 and other business applications utilized by the organization.
· Research, evaluate, and test emerging technologies and solutions.
· Assist with data organization, system audits, and technology compliance initiatives.
· Assist with performing tasks such as system maintenance and updates under the direction of Information Technology staff.
· Opportunities may exist to gain experience with first-level technical support to users experiencing hardware, software, network, printer, and mobile device issues.
· Assist with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Network Administration, Software Engineering, or a related field.
· Completion of at least one year of college coursework preferred.
· Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and networking concepts.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
· Familiarity with Microsoft Windows administration.
· Exposure to networking concepts and cybersecurity practices.
· Experience working in a customer service or technical support environment.
· Knowledge of ticketing systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, or endpoint management tools.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
· Ability to transport and install computer equipment throughout organizational facilities.
· Ability to work in office, industrial, and utility environments as needed.
