Residential Construction Laborer
Blue Chip Construction | Oklahoma City, OK
Full-Time | $16.50–$18/hour, DOE
Residential Renovation Maintenance Construction
About the Position
Blue Chip Construction is hiring a dependable, hardworking Residential Construction Laborer to join our field crew completing residential renovations, property turns, repairs, maintenance work orders, and construction projects throughout the Oklahoma City metro.
This is a hands-on position for someone who has basic construction skills and wants the opportunity to develop into a more capable tradesperson.
You do not need to be an expert craftsman or know every trade. We are looking for someone who understands how to work with tools, can perform basic residential renovation work, follows instructions well, takes pride in the quality of their work, and is willing to learn from more experienced members of the crew.
You will work primarily under the direction of a Residential Crew Foreman and assist with projects ranging from individual maintenance work orders to complete residential renovations.
Responsibilities
As a member of the Blue Chip field crew, you may:
- Assist with residential renovations, turns, repairs, and maintenance work orders
- Perform demolition and jobsite preparation
- Install LVP and other basic flooring
- Prepare and paint walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and other surfaces
- Use paint sprayers and other painting equipment
- Patch drywall and perform basic mudding and finishing
- Remove and install baseboards and trim
- Assist with doors, cabinets, vanities, countertops, and fixtures
- Measure, mark, and make basic cuts accurately
- Assemble and install basic residential components
- Assist experienced employees with carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and other repair work
- Load, unload, and move construction materials
- Pick up materials and supplies when directed
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Keep jobsites clean, organized, and safe
- Remove construction debris and complete jobsite cleanup
- Take direction from the Crew Foreman and complete assigned work efficiently
- Learn new construction and repair skills as you gain experience
- Assist with other construction and property maintenance work as needed
Skill Level We're Looking For
This is not an advanced tradesperson position.
We're looking for someone with basic construction knowledge who can already be productive on a residential jobsite while continuing to learn.
You should ideally be comfortable with tasks such as:
- Measuring accurately with a tape measure
- Making basic cuts with common saws
- Using drills, impact drivers, nailers, sanders, and other common power tools
- Painting a room properly from preparation through completion
- Using a paint sprayer or being able to learn quickly
- Installing basic LVP flooring
- Performing basic drywall patches and mudding
- Removing and reinstalling basic fixtures and components
- Performing demolition without unnecessarily damaging surrounding materials
- Following measurements, instructions, and a defined scope of work
- Recognizing when you don't know how to do something and asking before proceeding
You do not need advanced electrical, plumbing, HVAC, tile, carpentry, or other specialized trade experience to qualify.
Employees who develop those skills and demonstrate that they can independently complete increasingly difficult work will have opportunities to advance into higher-skilled and higher-paying positions.
Experience Required
- Some previous hands-on experience with construction, remodeling, property maintenance, home improvement, or similar work
- Basic familiarity with common hand and power tools
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and perform basic measuring and cutting
- Ability to follow instructions and learn new construction techniques
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license
- Basic hand tools appropriate for construction work
Preferred
- 1+ year of construction, remodeling, maintenance, or similar hands-on experience
- Residential renovation or remodeling experience
- Experience with painting, drywall, flooring, carpentry, demolition, or property maintenance
- Experience working on residential make-readies or rental property turns
- Familiarity with basic plumbing, HVAC, or electrical systems
- Experience using paint sprayers and common construction equipment
Formal trade education is not required. We care more about what you can do, how well you work, and how willing you are to learn.
Tools & Transportation
Reliable transportation and your own basic construction tools are required for this position.
Applicants should already have a functional set of personal tools appropriate for basic residential construction and renovation work. This should include common hand tools and basic power tools needed to independently complete everyday tasks, such as a tape measure, hammer, utility knife, levels, screwdrivers, pliers, drill/impact driver, and similar everyday equipment.
You are not expected to own expensive specialty tools or equipment for every type of work we perform.
Blue Chip Construction will provide certain shared equipment and specialty tools and may purchase additional tools as job requirements and employee responsibilities develop.
Employees are expected to take care of both personal and company-provided tools and equipment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This is a physically active construction position.
The job may require:
- Regularly lifting and carrying construction materials, tools, equipment, and debris
- Lifting approximately 50–75 lbs when necessary
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing
- Working from ladders when appropriate
- Working in attics, confined spaces, and other residential work areas when necessary
- Performing demolition and other physically demanding work
- Working indoors and outdoors
- Working in Oklahoma heat, cold, and changing weather conditions
- Working around dust, dirt, construction debris, noise, and active renovation environments
- Safely operating hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
Reasonable accommodations will be considered where applicable.
What We're Looking For
Experience matters, but for this position, attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn matter just as much.
We're looking for someone who:
- Shows up consistently and on time
- Works hard without needing to be constantly pushed
- Takes direction well
- Pays attention when being taught something
- Takes pride in the quality of their work
- Doesn't cut corners just to finish faster
- Keeps their work area organized
- Takes care of tools and equipment
- Can work independently once they've been shown how to complete a task
- Communicates when they encounter a problem or don't know how to proceed
- Wants to become better at the trades rather than remain a general laborer indefinitely
Compensation & Growth
Starting Pay: $16.50–$18/hour, based on experience and demonstrated capability.
Blue Chip Construction is looking for people who want the opportunity to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility.
An employee who starts in this position and develops stronger skills in areas such as carpentry, drywall, tile, plumbing, HVAC, residential electrical systems, troubleshooting, and general repair can advance into Skilled Laborer / Technician and Crew Lead positions with increased compensation.
Long-term advancement can include:
Residential Construction Laborer → Skilled Technician → Crew Lead → Residential Crew Foreman → Field/Project Management
Our goal is to develop capable people internally whenever possible. If you are dependable, learn quickly, produce quality work, and continually increase the types of work you can complete independently, there is room to grow with Blue Chip Construction.
Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
