Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and promoting a strong safety culture across all commercial roofing operations. This position works closely with field leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, company policies, and customer-specific safety requirements. The Safety Coordinator conducts jobsite inspections, manages safety documentation, facilitates training, investigates incidents, and helps ensure every employee returns home safely each day.

This role requires someone who is organized, proactive, comfortable working in both an office and field environment, and passionate about creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Field Safety Inspections

Conduct scheduled and unscheduled jobsite safety inspections.
Perform roof access inspections before work begins.
Identify hazards and work with field leadership to implement corrective actions.
Document findings and follow up until deficiencies are resolved.
Ensure proper use of fall protection systems, PPE, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and equipment.
Verify housekeeping standards are maintained on every project.

OSHA & Cal/OSHA Compliance

Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety policies.
Assist in maintaining the company Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
Monitor compliance with Heat Illness Prevention requirements.
Ensure required safety postings and documentation are available at each jobsite.
Assist during OSHA inspections and audits.

Safety Training

Coordinate and conduct training including:

New Hire Safety Orientation
Fall Protection
Ladder Safety
PPE Requirements
Heat Illness Prevention
Tool & Equipment Safety
Forklift & Lift Safety
Fire Prevention
Emergency Response
Customer-specific safety requirements

Assist with weekly Toolbox Talks and document employee attendance.

Safety Documentation

Maintain accurate records including:

Daily JHAs
Jobsite inspections
Incident reports
Near miss reports
Training records
Equipment inspections
Safety meeting attendance
Corrective action documentation
OSHA logs (supporting documentation)
Safety certifications

Maintain all documentation within company safety software (SiteDocs or equivalent).

Incident Management

Respond to workplace injuries and incidents.
Conduct incident investigations.
Interview employees and witnesses.
Collect photographs and documentation.
Determine root causes.
Recommend corrective actions.
Assist HR with workers' compensation documentation.

Jobsite Support

Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen by:

Answering safety questions
Providing coaching
Assisting with customer safety requirements
Reviewing site-specific safety plans
Conducting safety stand-downs when needed
Promoting positive safety behaviors

Equipment & PPE Management

Monitor PPE inventory.
Coordinate replacement of damaged equipment.
Inspect safety equipment.
Track inspection schedules.
Ensure certifications remain current.
Coordinate annual equipment inspections.

Reporting

Prepare weekly and monthly reports including:

Jobsite inspection scores
Corrective actions
Open safety items
Incident trends
Near miss reporting
Training completion
OSHA metrics
Leading and lagging indicators

Qualifications

Required

2+ years of construction safety experience
Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to climb ladders and access commercial rooftops
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions

Pay: $67,944.89 - $81,826.11 per year
