Summary

About the Position: Serves as Health Systems Specialist (Credentials) at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia who provides support to management by analyzing, evaluating, advising and coordinating all credentials activities.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Ensure accuracy and completeness of all data entries and enter information for all privileged providers into the automated credentials database.
Review all incoming provider credentials files.
Conduct primary source verification of the authenticity of the documents in the application package.
Contact current and previous employers to obtain completion of Clinical Reference Questionnaires to assess provider competency.
Work with providers, Department Heads, and Division officers to assist with the online privileging application process.
Utilize a computer to develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets, ad hoc reports, documents, graphs and briefing slides.
Assist in the development of local organization regulations, policies, briefs, circulars and pamphlets.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. For qualifications determinations your resume must contain hours worked per week and the dates of employment (i.e., hours per week and "month/year" to 'month/year" or "month/year" to "present"). If a determination is not able to be made about the length of your creditable experience for qualification requirements, you will be removed from consideration.

Health System Specialist (Credentials) GS-09:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes credentialing of employees; utilize a computer to develop and maintain documents; and prepare briefings for leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
