Position Overview
TekFive is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support the Engineering Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia. This position provides systems administration and technical support within engineering, laboratory, and research computing environments supporting NASA's mission.
The ideal candidate will have broad systems administration experience across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments, with the ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues, support scientific software applications, maintain server and storage infrastructure, and address system security requirements.
This position offers some telework flexibility; however, candidates should expect a significant onsite presence at NASA Langley Research Center.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide end-user and systems support for Linux, Windows, and macOS workstations.
- Administer Linux and Windows server environments.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot complex scientific and engineering software packages.
- Proactively monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform and maintain system backups and support data recovery requirements.
- Identify and resolve system security issues, including operating system and application patching.
- Assist with system risk analysis, security planning, and implementation of IT security requirements.
- Monitor and assist with the administration of enterprise storage systems.
- Support SAN and NAS environments and technologies including RAID, NFS, and LUNs.
- Troubleshoot basic network and connectivity issues.
- Provide technical support to users and track incidents and service requests through an established ticketing system.
- Develop scripts and utilize command-line tools to improve system administration, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Develop, maintain, and update technical and system documentation.
- Work directly with customers to identify technical requirements and resolve system issues.
- Collaborate with technical teams while also independently managing assigned responsibilities with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA Public Trust.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.
- Advanced systems administration experience with Linux, Windows, and/or macOS environments.
- Strong Linux command-line and scripting experience.
- Experience performing system backups and supporting recovery processes.
- Working knowledge of IT security best practices, system patching, and vulnerability remediation.
- Understanding of enterprise storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, RAID, NFS, and LUN concepts.
- Working knowledge of basic networking concepts and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and resolve technical problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service and customer relations skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative technical team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current NASA Public Trust.
- Previous NASA or other federal government experience.
- Experience supporting research computing, scientific computing, engineering, or laboratory environments.
- Experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter or similar enterprise virtualization technologies.
- Experience with hybrid cloud implementations or cloud migration initiatives.
- Experience implementing, administering, or securing Kubernetes environments.
- Experience developing and maintaining Ansible playbooks.
- Experience using Git or GitLab repositories in a collaborative development or infrastructure environment.
- Experience supporting enterprise server and storage environments.
- Experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.

Work Environment
This position supports NASA engineering, laboratory, and research computing operations at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Some telework is permitted; however, the position requires a significant onsite presence based on mission, customer, and operational requirements.

We are looking for a Systems Administrator who is technically versatile, self-directed, and comfortable working directly with engineers, researchers, and technical customers. The successful candidate will be able to move between end-user support and complex systems administration while maintaining a strong focus on security, reliability, documentation, and customer service.
Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
