This is a combined and flexible position designed for a team member who can clean guest rooms while also supporting the overall Housekeeping Department and maintaining hotel public areas.
As a Housekeeper / Houseperson, you may be assigned to clean guest suites, assist other Housekeepers with room turnover, strip rooms, distribute linens and supplies, remove trash, maintain hallways and public areas, and respond to operational needs throughout the hotel.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, hardworking, detail-oriented, flexible, and willing to help wherever needed. Teamwork is extremely important in this position.
Housekeeping Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare guest rooms and suites according to Residence Inn by Marriott and JNR Management standards.
- Make beds and replace sheets, pillowcases, and other linens as required.
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, showers, tubs, sinks, mirrors, counters, and floors.
- Clean kitchens and extended-stay areas within guest suites as required.
- Vacuum carpets and clean hard-surface flooring.
- Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, televisions, lamps, windowsills, and other surfaces.
- Empty trash and properly dispose of waste.
- Replenish towels, toiletries, coffee supplies, kitchen items, and other guest-room amenities.
- Ensure guest rooms are properly organized and presented before being released as clean.
- Inspect linens, furniture, fixtures, and room equipment for damage or excessive wear.
- Immediately report maintenance concerns, damages, missing items, or unusual conditions.
- Follow established procedures for lost-and-found items.
- Respect guest privacy and follow proper procedures when entering occupied rooms.
- Complete assigned rooms efficiently while maintaining quality and cleanliness standards.
Houseperson Responsibilities
When assigned Houseperson duties, responsibilities may include:
- Strip departing guest rooms to help Housekeepers complete rooms efficiently.
- Remove dirty linens and trash from guest-room floors.
- Transport soiled linens to designated laundry areas.
- Deliver clean linens, towels, blankets, pillows, and supplies to Housekeepers.
- Restock housekeeping closets, linen rooms, and supply areas.
- Keep hallways, stairwells, elevators, entrances, and other public areas clean.
- Vacuum, sweep, and mop assigned public areas.
- Empty public-area and housekeeping trash.
- Clean spills and address cleanliness concerns promptly.
- Maintain housekeeping storage areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Move housekeeping carts, linen carts, supplies, rollaway beds, cribs, and other hotel equipment as needed.
- Respond to requests for towels, linens, pillows, blankets, toiletries, and other approved guest amenities.
- Assist Housekeepers with heavy or time-sensitive tasks.
- Assist with laundry or linen operations when needed.
- Help maintain the exterior entrance and other assigned hotel areas.
- Support the Housekeeping Supervisor and hotel management with operational needs throughout the shift.
Extended-Stay Housekeeping
Residence Inn is an extended-stay hotel, and Housekeepers must understand that cleaning occupied rooms may differ from cleaning departing rooms.
Team members are expected to:
- Follow the hotel's established schedule for stayover and extended-stay housekeeping service.
- Respect guest belongings and personal space.
- Never move, remove, or dispose of guest property unless clearly identified as trash.
- Properly document rooms where service cannot be completed.
- Communicate "Do Not Disturb" rooms and declined service according to hotel procedures.
- Report excessive damage, safety concerns, or unusual room conditions to management.
- Complete assigned refresh and full-service cleanings according to hotel standards.
Cleanliness & Quality Standards
Every room should be cleaned with the expectation that the next guest will inspect it.
Team members are expected to pay particular attention to:
- Bathrooms, showers, tubs, toilets, and sinks.
- Bedding and linens.
- Floors and carpets.
- Kitchen and food-preparation areas.
- Mirrors and glass surfaces.
- Dust on furniture, fixtures, lamps, and other surfaces.
- Hair in bathrooms, bedding, or other areas.
- Trash left behind by previous guests.
- Odors or unusual smells.
- Missing or damaged amenities.
- Maintenance concerns.
- Overall room presentation.
A room should never be marked clean simply because the basic tasks have been completed. The room must be guest-ready and meet the hotel's cleanliness expectations.
Guest Service
Although this position primarily focuses on cleanliness, Housekeeping team members interact with guests regularly.
You will be expected to:
- Greet guests politely when encountered in hallways or public areas.
- Respond professionally to reasonable guest requests.
- Assist guests when possible or contact the appropriate department for assistance.
- Respect guest privacy at all times.
- Maintain professional behavior while working in guest areas.
- Never argue with a guest.
- Immediately report significant guest concerns to management or the Front Desk.
Teamwork & Communication
Housekeeping is a team operation.
Housekeepers / Housepersons are expected to:
- Communicate with the Housekeeping Supervisor regarding room assignments and priorities.
- Assist coworkers when their assigned responsibilities have been completed.
- Communicate rooms that are completed and ready for inspection.
- Report maintenance concerns immediately.
- Communicate linen and supply shortages.
- Work with the Front Desk when priority rooms are needed for arriving guests.
- Help the team during high-occupancy and high-departure days.
- Maintain a positive and respectful working relationship with coworkers.
- Complete required housekeeping checklists and assigned responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on hotel operational needs.
Safety & Sanitation
- Follow all JNR Management and hotel safety procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals only as directed.
- Follow proper chemical labeling, storage, and handling procedures.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Never mix cleaning chemicals.
- Properly dispose of waste and hazardous materials according to established procedures.
- Immediately report spills, hazards, broken equipment, or unsafe conditions.
- Use housekeeping equipment safely and correctly.
- Follow proper procedures for handling bodily fluids, broken glass, needles, or other potentially hazardous materials.
- Maintain housekeeping carts and equipment in a safe and organized condition.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel housekeeping, houseperson, janitorial, residential cleaning, or commercial cleaning experience is preferred but not required.
- Residence Inn or Marriott experience is a plus.
- Dependable and able to report to scheduled shifts on time.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and remain productive throughout the shift.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to perform both Housekeeper and Houseperson responsibilities based on hotel needs.
- Ability to follow cleaning procedures, room assignments, and instructions from management.
- Friendly and professional when interacting with guests and coworkers.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hotel environment.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays based on hotel occupancy and operational needs.
Physical Requirements
This is an active and physically demanding position.
The position requires extended periods of standing and walking, along with frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and repetitive movement.
Team members must be able to safely:
- Push and maneuver housekeeping and linen carts.
- Carry linens, towels, supplies, and cleaning products.
- Lift and move items associated with normal hotel housekeeping operations.
- Strip and make beds.
- Vacuum and mop guest rooms and public areas.
- Work throughout guest-room floors, stairways, hallways, and other hotel areas.
