Position Summary
The Fundraising and Public Relations Manager will increase the organization’s visibility throughout the diverse communities we serve, ensuring that there is an increased awareness of the organization’s Mission, Programs & Services in the northeast Nebraska region. This role will not only represent the ASNN brand, but will create an annual fundraising plan that will include special events, donor solicitations, annual appeal, and large gift campaigns as needed. This position will also create and oversee the annual Marketing Plan for ASNN.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities for Community Engagement and Public Relations
- Plan community events, including budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, marketing/PR, and logistics for each event.
- Required to attend and report at monthly board meetings and campaign committee meetings as they are scheduled.
- Provide follow-up up including profit and loss statements and recommendations for growth and improvement for each event.
- Lead, plan, cultivate, coordinate, develop, solicit, and acknowledge/thank individual, corporate, and civic organizations’ philanthropic gifts.
- Lead, prepare, design, produce, and deliver direct mail and campaign materials.
- Lead, coordinate, and promote strategic goals and post-deliverables for community and fundraising events.
- Orchestrate the development, implementation, and follow-through of campaign and community outreach plans.
- Design, produce all marketing materials including electronic, web-based, social media, and print materials: newsletters, outreach promotional materials, invitations, cards, and mass mailings.
- Assist Shelter Manager in maintaining positive public relations with local media contacts, community leaders, and industry professionals.
- Responsible for cultivating, leveraging, and engaging media to promote events to increase awareness, participation, and fundraising.
- Work with volunteer planning committees to organize outreach activities that promote the ASNN mission and services, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities.
- Create an annual Marketing Plan to include, but not limited to, events, promotional materials, and related timelines.
- Coordinate community outreach opportunities.
- It is required to serve as the ASNN representative in Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce activities.
- Other duties may be assigned as required by the Shelter Manager or Board Members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities for Fundraising
- Develop and implement an annual fund development plan, including grant proposals, direct mail appeals, recurring gifts, major gifts, events, and donor cultivation to achieve established fundraising goals.
- Develop community contacts to recruit high-level volunteer leadership on the fundraising committee.
- Meet and communicate regularly with Shelter Manager and Board of Directors to share updates, assess progress, present reports, and coordinate centralized tasks.
- Maintain relationships with key corporate sponsors year-round and ensure involvement in all relevant organization activities and recognition opportunities.
- Provide leadership to volunteers of fundraising, including Annual Campaign, Grants, Major Gifts, Planned Gifts, and the incremental processes.
- Oversee donor and gift record-keeping and reporting, including management of donor database and gift processing activities.
- Maintain ongoing donor stewardship.
- Research, secure, and oversee the implementation of grants and ensure all compliance requirements are met.
- Attends monthly accounting meetings to manage deposits of fundraising events, donations, sponsorships, pledges, etc., and ensures acknowledgements/thank yous are sent out.
- Other duties may be assigned as required by the Shelter Manager or Board Members.

- Demonstrated ability to organize, establish goals, prioritize, coordinate, and elevate multiple events simultaneously and track outcomes.
- Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Able to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience.
- Must have sharp public speaking skills and be able to deliver presentations to a range of audiences.
- Proficiency with web content management, spreadsheets, documents, and presentation programs.
- Proficient with technology, including use of social media, mobile devices, and other relevant media.
- Self-motivated, outgoing, pleasant, diplomatic, energetic, highly creative, flexible, and open to new ideas.
- Superior problem-solving skills paired with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Background screening, reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license are required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Marketing or Public Relations or a related field preferred, or a minimum of three (3) years related work experience.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for long periods; walk up and down stairs throughout the day; bend, stoop, reach, and lift from the ground up; and lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Position Type: This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 60-minute lunch, 40 hours per week. When the week includes events, donor meetings, or other requirements outside the normal working hours, the hours may be adjusted, as approved by the Shelter Manager and/or Board. Working in excess of 40 hours per week is not allowed unless the Shelter Manager and/or Board provides prior authorization. 80 hours/year PTO.
Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day.
Supervision Received
Reports to and receives general direction from the Shelter Manager and/or Board of Directors. Expected to act independently and in compliance with objectives and procedures.
