Position Status: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Scheduled hours vary.
The Cook is responsible for directing supervising and assisting in the preparation and cooking of complete meals and special diet meals for a large number of people included but not limited to residents visitors and staff members.
Prepare regular and special diet foods according to prescribed menus and recipes
Ensure that all kitchen facilities are maintained in sanitary condition
Serves hot foods on tray line for meals
Pre-preparation of foods for the following day
Cleans up work area pots pans utensils and equipment
Supervision of staff in absence of Dietary Supervisor
Other duties as assigned
Considerable knowledge of food preparation and processing equipment
Considerable knowledge of menu requirements food storage methods and general dietary considerations
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to operate and maintain all standard kitchen equipment
Ability to prepare a schedule of meals with a minimum supervision
Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and others
Ability to supervise a small staff to produce large volume meals in a timely fashion
Skilled in large quantity cooking
Ability to follow recipes and increase or decrease amounts according to portions needed
Ability to make simple estimates relative to quantity of food required
Knowledge of can and dipper sizes and corresponding measures
Knowledge of sanitation practices in food service
Ability to supervise
Experience as a cook in an institutional or restaurant setting preferred
Ability to perform light unskilled manual labor such as dusting mopping vacuuming etc.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently
Ability to lift and maneuver moderately heavy tools and equipment
Ability to read and comprehend recipes menus etc.
Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions/procedures correctly

Full salary range: $18.3028 -$27.98 per hour (upper range based on long term career with McLean County)
