Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounts Payable Clerk to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and have experience working with various financial software systems. As an integral part of our accounting department, you will be responsible for processing vendor invoices, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accurate and timely payments. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in corporate accounting and contribute to the financial health of our organization through precise data entry and diligent account management.

Responsibilities

Process and verify vendor invoices using accounting software such as Workday, Paychex, QuickBooks, or Sage, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Reconcile accounts payable transactions with general ledger entries, performing detailed account reconciliations regularly.
Prepare and review journal entries related to accounts payable activities, maintaining proper documentation for audit purposes.
Manage the accounts payable workflow by prioritizing payments, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring adherence to payment schedules.
Assist with month-end closing procedures by preparing reports on outstanding payables and analyzing discrepancies using analysis skills.
Support compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls by maintaining accurate records and following internal audit procedures.
Collaborate with human resources and other departments to ensure benefits administration data is accurately reflected in financial systems such as HRIS or UltiPro.
Maintain proficiency in multiple financial software platforms including ADP, Kronos, Ceridian, PeopleSoft, and others to streamline processes.
Contribute to process improvements by identifying efficiencies in data entry, account reconciliation, or bookkeeping practices.

Requirements

Proven experience in accounts payable functions within a corporate or governmental setting; experience in public accounting is a plus.
Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, double-entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting practices.
Familiarity with accounting software such as Workday, QuickBooks, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or similar platforms; experience with financial concepts is essential.
Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation and journal entries accurately while managing multiple priorities.
Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy (10 key typing proficiency preferred).
Understanding of payroll management processes including benefits administration and tax experience is advantageous.
Demonstrated analysis skills for reviewing financial data and identifying discrepancies or anomalies.
Knowledge of governmental accounting standards or non-profit accounting practices is beneficial but not required. Join us to support our financial operations through meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to accounts payable management!
