Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Lead Teacher is responsible for maintaining the daily operations of the assigned classroom an supervising children, paraprofessionals, and support staff. This role ensures a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment while supporting the developmental needs of children. Responsibilities include lesson planning, classroom management, documentation, and maintaining strong communication with families and staff. Duties may extend beyond the classroom setting and may require occasional lifting of children and materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively engage with children to support their learning and development across physical, emotional, social, and cognitive domains
Plan, implement, and execute developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities based on student assessments
Manage daily classroom operations, including supervision of staff, volunteers, and children
Ensure compliance with standards set by regulatory and accrediting bodies (e.g., Department of Human Services, NAEYC, Keystone STARS)
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inviting classroom environment
Document and maintain accurate records, including anecdotal notes, incident/accident reports, and child development plans (L.A.P., IPP/IEP)
Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, staff, and community stakeholders
Provide routine updates to parents regarding children’s progress, behavior, and well-being; escalate concerns to Center Management as needed
Participate in monthly developmental meetings and semi-annual parent-teacher conferences
Develop and manage classroom schedules, including staff assignments and break coverage
Maintain attendance records, meal forms, and required documentation
Keep Center Management informed of classroom needs, concerns, and updates
Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals within the classroom
Conduct home visits when applicable
Perform additional duties as assigned by Center Management

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field required

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching young children
Experience in classroom management, lesson planning, and child assessment preferred

Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of early childhood development and instructional practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage a classroom and supervise staff effectively
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with external service providers

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in licensed early childhood programs
Familiarity with Keystone STARS, NAEYC, or similar quality standards

Certifications & Training Requirements:

Completion of 24 PQAS hours per school year

Required trainings include:

Health & Safety
Mandated Reporter
CPR & First Aid
Fire Safety

Working Conditions:

Classroom-based environment with frequent interaction with young children. May require occasional work outside the classroom (e.g., meetings, home visits). May require lifting children and classroom materials.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift children and classroom materials, bend, sit on the floor, and move actively throughout the day to supervise and engage with children.
