Children’s Medical Office of North Andover, P.C. (CMO) is seeking a nurse with pediatric experience who is also a certified lactation consultant to work full time in our medical home.
CMO is a collaborative group practice on Boston’s North Shore. We provide care to patients from birth through age 21 with a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and special health care needs. Our clinicians include 5 pediatricians, 4 pediatric nurse practitioners, 2 on-site behavioral health clinicians (PhD and LICSW), and a registered dietician. We use the EPIC platform for patient care documentation.

Job description: The position would combine lactation support, patient-facing nursing care, clinical coordination, education and medical administrative duties. These are outlined below
Lactation
- Provide lactation consultation to mother-child, dads in the newborn period as well as for maintenance of supply, inadequate weight gain, mastitis, weaning, and other high-risk moments
- Work with the in-house dietician to help breastfeeding mothers with infants who have inadequate weight gain for age
- Create and maintain educational materials related to lactation
- Help parents coordinate access to pumping and other lactation resources locally
- All visits will need to be appropriately documented and billed.
Nursing activities
- Phlebotomy
- Administration of routine immunizations and specialized vaccines (including Typhoid, Rabies, RSV)
- Administration of injectable therapeutics including DepoProvera, Dupixent, and immunotherapy (aka allergy shots)
- Coordination of a penicillin allergy testing clinic.
- Triage phone calls to determine whether in-person visit is needed or if basic advice can be given by phone (limited in frequency and number)
- Assist the MA supervisor to train and supervise Medical Assistants (MAs).Serve as a clinical resource and mentor. Assist with onboarding, training, and skill-building of our MA team.
Medical Home and Care Coordination
- Work with the medical home care coordinator (MHCC) on specific tasks related to chronic health management.
- Coordinate with St. Ann’s home for patients new to our practice, providing standing orders, vaccine documentation, medication list updates, and information transfer.
- Coordinate with the specialists of or medically complex patients in advance of well visits to provide updated information to PCP for highest quality primary care. This will include emailing/talking with specialists and parents, updating medication lists, compiling recent visits, upcoming visits, and any recommended testing from specialists.
- New patient management - entering vaccines and prior labs, flagging medically complex patients for providers.
- Patient education related to asthma medication (inhaler/spacer techniques) and epipen administration for families. This will include updating and distributing asthma and allergy plans and care plans related to asthma and allergies.
- ER follow-up calls to check on patients after hospital discharge and schedule follow-up as appropriate.
Administrative duties
- Vaccine coordination - work closely with our primary vaccine coordinator to assist with inventory management, storage compliance and general VFC support.
- In-basket management to support medical providers. This will include:
- Reviewing labs to flag any abnormal results that need a provider to respond immediately
- Calling families (at request of medical provider) with results and a plan of action.
- Preparation of refill requests - checking PDMP for controlled substances, making sure patients are appropriately scheduled for follow-up visits, and confirming with patients that they have enough medication to get to the scheduled visit.
- Reviewing advice requests to flag those that need urgent responses or need to have an appointment scheduled.
- Prior Authorization (PA) management. Work with the PA team to ensure that PAs are completed so that families can get timely access to medications, DME, and specialist care.
Education & Licensure Requirements
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
- Current BLS certification, PALS preferred
- Prior experience in a pediatric primary care or outpatient clinic setting is highly preferred.
- One year of lactation experience
