Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sewing Machine Operator - Industrial to join our dynamic manufacturing team. As a Sewing Machine Operator, you will be trained to use our sewing machines for a variety of rope customizations and enhancements. Your work on these specialized improvements will add value and/or create new items from rope made in other departments. This role is highly hands-on, detail-oriented, and one of the most creative positions on our team!
Duties
You will be part of a team where all associates are asked to help reduce waste and improve quality, productivity, safety, and performance within the assigned cell. You will be responsible for ensuring equipment runs according to the production schedule and is properly maintained. Associates hired into this position will learn all procedures/processes related to manufacturing fiber rope products. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Practice safe work habits as an individual and with co-workers
- Adhere to guidelines related to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), know safety equipment, and be aware of machine safety procedures.
- Follow direction of the Group or Cell Leader
- Required cross-training-to become proficient in the safe operation of all equipment as requested by the Group Leader
- Demonstrate flexibility to assist in other areas of the facility as needed without hesitation
- Review product for defects, inconsistencies, or abnormal appearance, assuring product meets stringent quality requirements
- Work effectively in a team environment
- Perform cleaning and basic preventative maintenance of all equipment
- Ensure full adherence to 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) practices at all times
- Able to read production job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of machines as required
- Document production information on tally sheets and make basic production entries in written and/or electronic form
- Must understand basic mathematical principles and know measurement processes such as length, diameter, weights, and counts
- Notify Group Leader of non-conforming products or problems with equipment, materials, etc.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area; provide accurate and legible traceability to all raw materials
- Communicate production issues with the next shift Equipment Operator
- Willing to perform repetitive tasks for an extended period
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent, preferred; ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions.
- Ability to understand basic mechanical processes and equipment function principles. An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
- Ability to read and write English, learn/perform basic SAP functions
- Ability to be able to adapt and operate in an ever-changing environment.
- Experience: Not required. Experience in manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, speaking, hearing, eyesight, manual dexterity, lifting to 50 pounds.
Schedule:
- 8-hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
- Weekends as needed
