Full Job Description

Civil Engineer, EIT (4+ Years Experience)Position Description

The Civil Engineer, EIT supports the planning, design, and delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects from preliminary engineering through construction. This role works under the guidance of a Project Manager or Senior Engineer and contributes to feasibility studies, engineering design, cost estimation, and construction support.

The Engineer assists in managing project scope, schedule, and budget while developing technical expertise in roadway, bridge, and pedestrian facility design. This position requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and execution of feasibility studies, preliminary engineering design, alternative analysis, risk analysis, and cost estimation.
Contribute to environmental documentation, permitting coordination, and mitigation support as needed.
Prepare engineering design plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation projects including roadway, bridge, and pedestrian facilities.
Perform roadway design, drainage design, erosion control plans, and utility coordination under supervision of senior staff.
Support project scope, schedule, and budget tracking from conceptual design through construction.
Assist in preparing and updating project schedules and contributing to monthly project status reports.
Coordinate with internal team members, subconsultants, and contractors to ensure tasks remain on track.
Participate in client meetings and stakeholder coordination efforts as directed.
Conduct site visits and field observations to monitor progress and verify compliance with plans and specifications.
Provide construction phase support including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and assisting with change order documentation.
Maintain accurate project documentation and adhere to established quality control standards.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar curriculum from an ABET-accredited college or university.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
4+ years of experience in civil engineering planning, design, and/or construction management, preferably focused on transportation infrastructure projects.
Experience supporting roadway and drainage design projects preferred.
Valid driver’s license (North Carolina preferred if applicable).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Working knowledge of civil transportation infrastructure design, roadway design, drainage systems, erosion control, and construction standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D (experience with WaterCAD preferred).
Familiarity with collaborative platforms such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to handle confidential materials with professionalism and discretion.
Demonstrated desire to pursue Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
