Education: Outreach Career Advisor must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any field
Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain proof of insurance. Minimum five years professional work experience. Candidates must be willing to complete the Career Advisor training provided by the North Dakota Department of CTE within the first two years of employment. Must have or be eligible for a North Dakota teaching license or be able to be alternatively certified through provided Career Advisor Training.
Job Summary: The role of the Outreach Career Advisor is to deliver and support the Career Education program that educates students’ on making their career choices. The Career Advisor also provides support for the Career Education curriculum in collaboration with Middle and High School Career Advisors, Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Career Impact Academy (CIA) staff and member schools’ staff. They will provide organizational leadership, develop and implement programs, and continually upgrade the career education curriculum. The Career Advisor will play an essential role within all career development activities and career education special events, including but not limited to the portfolio process, mentorship programs, and career fairs. The Career Advisor is a valued and contributing member of the Career Development Program of the CIA. The Career Advisor position is funded by the Career and Technical Education Department and will be based out of the CIA. This position will regularly travel to CIA member schools including: Central Valley, Hatton, Hillsboro, Larimore, May-Port CG, Northwood, and Thompson. Outreach travel to these schools will be reimbursed in accordance with district policy.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
CIA member schools Outreach & Career Development Support

Serve as a liaison between the CIA and member schools to support career education and career development initiatives for students in grades 7–12.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with school counselors, administrators, teachers, students, industry partners, and community organizations to expand career exploration opportunities and workforce connections.

Provide ongoing support to CIA member schools throughout the school year through regular school visits, counselor and student check-ins, material delivery, and coordination of career development resources and opportunities.

Support student awareness of career pathways, CIA programs, postsecondary options, and work-based learning opportunities.

Coordinate and support career exploration activities including career presentations, career fairs, job shadows, industry tours, hands-on experiences, and career awareness events.

Provide career development lesson materials, resources, and implementation support for grades 7–12 in collaboration with school staff and counselors.

Promote equitable access to career exploration opportunities and support outreach efforts related to non-traditional career pathways and underrepresented student populations.

Be available to students, teachers, and parents during regular school hours throughout the school year.
Career Education Curriculum Development

Reviews and manages the curriculum for the Career Education program

Reviews and manages the software and available resources for Career Education program

Provides staff in-service on changes to curriculum, software, and available resources

Coordinates the printing and distribution career education materials.

Willingness to attend professional development training and conferences related to Career Development and Career Advising for the purposes of enhancing the program and maintain up to date knowledge of the field, including attending the annual Professional Development Conference (PDC).
Career Development Advisory Committee

Plan and coordinate quarterly Advisory Committee meetings with the Career Development team.

Ensure Career Development Advisory Committee membership is representative of member schools, local industry, and other stakeholders.

Meet with the advisory committee quarterly during the school year to evaluate, make suggestions for improvements or changes, and to assist in the promotion of the Career Development program.
Career Education Department Team Member

Provide support and assistance for annual career events such as the 8th grade Career Event, Northern Valley Career Expo, Take Charge of Your Future, and Cash In job fairs.

Identifies and oversees state grant opportunities for funding nontraditional career opportunities and educational equity.

Record and maintain records of students visits at the middle and high school level

Provide support in gathering data to complete state reports.

Assist with the implementation of the Choice Ready accountability measurements and data recording.

Serves as a team member in supporting the High School Career Advisors, including coverage (if needed) of the High School Career Centers.
Coordinate the Job Shadowing program at the CIA member schools

Promotion and expansion of the Job Shadowing program with the goal of placing students in grades 9-12 in a job shadowing experience upon request.

Arrange all appointments and prepare all correspondence for business contacts and
student participants.

Assist CIA member school students with the application process, research of career information, preparation for shadow visit, and follow-up activities.

Collaborate with the High School Career Advisors to set up and promote Career Forums for students to explore careers as a group activity in identified areas that are high in demand.
Promote Work-Based Learning Program at the CIA member schools

Identify students that are eligible and or interested in work-based learning experiences

Collaborate with CIA WBL coordinator and WBL coordinators from member schools to help educate stakeholders on WBL procedures and opportunities
Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, drive a vehicle; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Terms of Employment: 188 day contract
Evaluation: By the Executive Director of Career & Technical Education, at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
