Position: Ag and Commercial Loan Officer

Location: Ellendale, ND (In-Person)

Position Summary

Dakota Plains Credit Union is seeking an Ag & Commercial Loan Officer, Senior Loan Officer, or Loan Manager to help serve and grow our agricultural and commercial lending relationships in Ellendale, North Dakota. This opportunity is designed to accommodate a wide range of experience levels - from individuals seeking to begin a career in agricultural and commercial lending to experienced lenders and lending managers seeking long-term leadership opportunities.

The successful candidate will build trusted relationships with members, support lending activities, and contribute to the continued growth of our agricultural and commercial loan portfolio. Depending on experience and qualifications, the position may be filled at the Loan Officer, Senior Loan Officer, or Loan Manager level, with responsibilities and authority tailored accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with and/or manage a portfolio of agricultural and commercial loans.
Develop and maintain relationships with agricultural producers, businesses, and community members.
Originate, underwrite, structure, and close loans, including operating lines, real estate, equipment, and term financing.
Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and repayment capacity.
Conduct loan reviews, renewals, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
Ensure compliance with credit union policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Identify opportunities to expand member relationships through additional credit union products and services.
Represent Dakota Plains Credit Union through community involvement, networking, and outreach activities.
Document loan advances, application of proceeds, and loan payment tracking.
Work closely with branch management, mortgage lenders, consumer lenders, and other team members to provide full-service financial solutions.
Collaborate with lending staff and management on complex credits and portfolio strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the ongoing needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Dakota Plains Credit Union welcomes applicants with varying levels of experience. Compensation, responsibilities, and advancement opportunities will be tailored based on qualifications and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Interest in or experience with agricultural, commercial, and business lending.
Understanding of agricultural operations, business finance, or credit analysis is preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and member service abilities.
Ability to learn lending principles, financial analysis, and credit underwriting.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business software.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Agriculture, Accounting, or a related field preferred.

Additional Qualifications for Experienced Candidates

3+ years of experience in agricultural and/or commercial lending preferred.
Knowledge of Bank of North Dakota, FSA, USDA, FHLB, SBA, participation lending, and other commercial lending programs.
Experience managing loan portfolios and business development activities.
Strong credit underwriting, risk management, and loan structuring skills.
Leadership, mentoring, supervisory, or lending management experience is highly desirable.
Ability to provide strategic direction, portfolio oversight, and coaching to lending staff for candidates considered for a Loan Manager role.
