Parks & Recreation Buildings & Grounds Assistant Supervisor
Employment Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $70,720.00- $94,614.61 annually, wage dependent on experience
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; additional education, certifications, or experience in parks, recreation, facilities maintenance, public administration, or related fields preferred.
Direct Supervisor: Parks & Recreation Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, in coordination with the Parks & Recreation Director, in instances when directed, under the oversight of the City Administrator and Portfolio Holder.
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes, as assigned.
Primary Work Location: Indoor and outdoor facilities, parks, athletic fields, and recreation spaces.
Certification: Valid State of North Dakota Driver’s License required.

GENERAL
Under direct supervision of the Parks & Recreation Building & Grounds Supervisor, working in coordination with the Killdeer Parks & Recreation Director as workload and availability dictates, and under the oversight of the Parks & Recreation Portfolio Holder and City Administrator, performs a variety of tasks in the upkeep, cleaning, construction, maintenance and/or repair of the City of Killdeer parks and related facilities. Performs setup, oversight, and cleanup of Parks and City related events, programs, and sports activities. Works with the Supervisor and Director in all facets of operations as directed respectively. Responsible for maintaining all Parks related facilities and equipment. Represents the City of Killdeer in a polite and professional manner. The position is expected to evolve over time as the City of Killdeer continues planned growth and expansion of parks, recreational facilities, athletic programming, and public recreational events.
The Assistant Director / Assistant Supervisor assists with the maintenance, operation, improvement, scheduling, setup, oversight, and coordination of parks, facilities, recreational programs, athletic activities, and special events.
The employee represents the City of Killdeer in a professional, courteous, and community-oriented manner at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Buildings & Grounds Related Duties
· Assist in planning, prioritizing, and completing daily parks and facilities maintenance activities.
· Assist with upkeep, cleaning, repair, maintenance, and improvement of parks, recreation facilities, athletic complexes, playgrounds, trails, and public grounds.
· Operate mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, trailers, skid steers, snow removal equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
· Perform building maintenance and repair tasks including painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical work, lighting replacement, roofing repairs, and related facility upkeep.
· Assist with future parks and facility expansion projects, construction coordination, and improvement planning.
· Oversees and coordinates all tree planting, tree maintenance, tree grooming, and tree removal activities on city owned property, in coordination with the city forestry consultant, as directed by the Killdeer Tree Board.
· Ability to supervise seasonal and part time staff for parks, buildings, and grounds operations as directed by the Parks & Recreation Supervisor
· Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and City departments as directed.
· Assists the Parks & Recreation Director with organizing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating recreational programs, sports leagues, tournaments, camps, and community events and workload and availability dictates.
· Assist with scheduling athletic facilities, parks, and recreational spaces.
· Support the staff with program registration, communication, participant coordination, and event logistics as directed.
· Assist with setup and teardown of events, tournaments, programs, meetings, and community activities.
· Assist in duties associated with the Mountain View Shooting Complex, including but not limited to general facility maintenance, repairs, and customer service items.
· All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
· General building and grounds maintenance methods and practices.
· Parks and recreation operations and athletic facility maintenance.
· Operation and maintenance of equipment, machinery, and tools used in parks and facility operations.
· Principles of recreational programming and event coordination.
Ability to:
· Work independently while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, volunteers, contractors, community organizations, and the public.
· Organize and prioritize multiple assignments and projects.
· Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING
Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Experience in parks and recreation, building maintenance, construction, landscaping, athletics, facilities management, public works, or related fields is preferred but not required.
Valid North Dakota Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire preferred or ability to obtain.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Lifting items that weigh more than 60 pounds, lifting items above head,
· Stooping, climbing, bending, and push and pull no more than 100 pounds.
· Mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in area of responsibility.
· Perform duties in varied outdoor/indoor temperature changes. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dust, and /or pollen.
· Work a varied schedule; work hours set by departmental requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee can encounter extreme heat or cold temperatures when supervising outdoor activities during summer and winter months. May encounter rain, sleet and snow. Must be able to perform manual labor as well as operate equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field. Ability to work longer hours when needed, with the ability to work evenings and weekends when required.
