Salary/Compensation: $62,000 - $67,000
North Haven Public Schools is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and professional Benefits Generalist to manage the daily operations of the District's comprehensive employee benefits programs. Working in tandem with the Human Resources Generalist, the Benefits Generalist serves as the vital link between district employees, administrators, and external plan vendors. This role requires high emotional intelligence, strict confidentiality, and precise data management to support both certified and non-certified staff members.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (which may change based on state/federal regulations and district guidelines):

Benefits Program Administration: Manage and oversee day-to-day operations of health, dental, vision, life insurance, worker’s compensation, HSA/HRA plans, disability, and retirement programs.

Enrollment & Onboarding: Working with the Human Resource Generalist, assist newly hired employees through the benefit enrollment workflow, conducting systematic verification and accurate data entry.

Benefits Communication & Interpretation: Serve as a primary point of contact to educate staff on plan changes, utilization guidelines, and to interpret board benefits policies with clarity.

Claims & Troubleshooting Assistance: Actively guide employees through complex claims processes, helping resolve individual coverage and billing discrepancies.

Vendor & External Liaison Management: Coordinate directly with insurance brokers, carriers, the Town of North Haven, and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) to facilitate optimal plan administration and reporting.

HRIS Data Integrity: Ensure flawless entry of all benefit choices into ADP pay profiles, set up HSA direct deposit routing, and coordinate the bi-annual distribution of Board HSA contributions alongside the Payroll Clerk and HR Generalist.

Retirement Services Support: Assist eligible personnel in navigating pension frameworks, employee pension choices, and specific reporting rules for the Connecticut Teachers’ Retirement Board (TRB).

Compliance Oversight: Continuously monitor federal, state, and local regulatory shifts to ensure all benefit programs maintain statutory alignment.

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Finance is strongly preferred.

Experience: 2–4 years of experience in clerical benefits administration, human resources, or public sector school district payroll preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Exceptional aptitude using HRIS systems (such as ADP Workforce Now) and intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace.

Core Competencies: Unwavering capability to safeguard highly confidential medical and financial records (HIPAA/FERPA).

Exceptional customer service skills, displaying composure and tact when advising employees navigating stressful situations.

Rigid precision in financial data tracking, spreadsheet compilation, and audit protections.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, stand, and type extensively. Occasional lifting or moving of files or presentation materials up to 10 lbs. may be needed.

Work Conditions: Standard office setting within an educational central business environment. Requires visual concentration on detail and the capability to adjust to frequent task interruptions.
