Lead Field Service Technician – PV/BESS Position Summary: The Lead Field Service Technician – PV/BESS is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role ensures asset reliability, maximizes uptime, and supports safe, clean energy delivery. Technicians will perform preventative and corrective maintenance and will document work accurately through Scoop Solar or Salesforce FSL and collaborate closely with teammates to resolve issues efficiently—always prioritizing safety, PPE compliance, and professional conduct.

Objectives
· Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on PV and BESS systems.
· Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software-related system issues.
· Ensure strict compliance with PPE, OSHA, and LOTO safety procedures.
· Accurately document all service work, materials, and site conditions.
· Support warehouse and operations teams with equipment readiness and feedback.
· Mentor junior technicians and support field performance improvement.
Competencies (Technical & Physical Proficiency)
To perform this role successfully, as the lead technician, you must demonstrate the ability to:
Electrical & Technical Skills
· Read and interpret electrical schematics, three-line diagrams, and system drawings
· Execute knowledge lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc flash safety & PPE procedures
· Show competency in using insulation (Megger) testers, multimeters, and clamp on amp meters to perform safe AC/DC electrical testing
· I-V curve Tracer Set up and Utilization competency and ability to identify root causes of performance loss in analysis and interpretation of performance data
· Troubleshoot and repair PV Solar Arrays including PV modules, strings, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, and switchgear
· Diagnose and service PV/BESS components including BMS, inverters, and control systems
· Perform commissioning, preventative maintenance, system testing, and verification of PV/BESS system performance
· Configure or troubleshoot DAS and SCADA monitoring systems
PV Experience required in:

Mechanical & Installation Skills
· Perform safe installation, torquing, and alignment of racking and enclosure components
· Replace damaged or defective PV inverters,combiner boxes, PV Modules, AC/DC wiring, fuses, contactors, or sensors
· Inspect and maintain battery enclosures, HVAC units, and associated equipment
Documentation & Reporting
· Accurately log service activities on internal reporting platforms
· Capture and upload job photos, serial numbers, and site notes
· Complete required QA/QC forms and safety documentation
Safety & PPE Compliance
· Consistently wear and inspect required PPE
· Maintain OSHA 10 and NFPA 70E safety awareness
· Conduct hazard assessments, JHA and toolbox talks before starting each job
Professional Competencies
· Demonstrate leadership and mentorship with junior technicians
· Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and support teams

Education & Experience
Required:
· 3+ years of hands-on experience with Commercial PV and/or BESS systems
· Proficiency in electrical systems (AC/DC, low and medium voltage)
· Familiarity with inverter technologies, battery management systems, and SCADA
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
Preferred:
· Journeyman or Master Electrician license
· OEM certifications (Tesla, SMA, Sungrow, etc.)
· OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, or equivalent training
· Knowledge of utility interconnection standards and grid-tied systems
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in all outdoor environments
· Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around high voltage equipment
· Capable of standing, bending, and climbing for extended periods
· Willingness to travel to remote job sites and work in various weather conditions

· Safety Compliance Rate: 100% of work completed in full PPE and LOTO adherence.
· First-Time Fix Rate: 97% of service calls resolved without repeat visits.
· Incident Reduction: Zero preventable safety incidents.
· Reporting Accuracy: 95% of reports completed error-free in reporting platforms.
