Organization Overview

Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

Our mission at PUC Schools is to develop and manage high-quality charter schools in densely populated urban communities with overcrowded and low-achieving schools. We create school programs and cultures that promote college graduation for all students. We uplift and revitalize communities through the success of our students and through inspiring them to uplift our communities now and forever and through the development of educational and other supportive partnerships.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Assistant Principal believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success. The Assistant Principal exhibits this by supporting the Principal with student & parent relations and school operations, managing classified staff, supporting instruction, and successfully implementing testing.

What you will need to accomplish:

Academic Strategy and Instructional Development

Develop the professional and instructional effectiveness of teachers through quality observations, feedback, coaching, and professional learning structures
Design and facilitate professional development that yields improvement in teacher practice and student achievement
Create and implement processes to reduce the achievement gap which will be supported by evidence through assessments such as benchmarks, classroom data, parent and student feedback, and targeted intervention plans
Collect and analyze appropriate data to establish instructional programs, concrete student achievement goals, and rigorous curricula aligned to state and college-readiness standards

Students and Parents:

Plan and attend school events, such as “back to school night”, parent meetings, etc.
Collaborate with respective parties (parents, students, etc.) to coordinate school events such as dances, fundraisers, etc.
Manage all student discipline matters, such as coordinating parent meetings ensuring the procedures are following district, legal, and PUC policies
Coordinate field trips
Coordinate student support systems
Coordinate the student recruitment process
Actively engage and collaborate with parents to ensure parent participation

Classified Staff:

Supervise, evaluate, set, and monitor growth plans for classified staff

Testing:

Ensure all demographic data is accurately entered into PowerSchool
Ensure all testing materials are ordered
Coordinate internal assessments including the MAP and Math Assessments

Finances:

Ensure all purchases and decisions are made within budget
Advise the Principal on purchases
Review the status of the budget regularly
Approve all invoices prior to sending them to the office for payment
Lead all fundraising events
Attend budget-related meetings and trainings
Ensure an adequate number of supplies are maintained
Ensure staff work budgeted hours

Operations:

Ensure attendance procedures are adhered to and lunch counts are accurate
Attend all operations-related meetings and trainings
Ensure the school is clean and safe from any hazards
Work with the Operations team to address any facility needs such as repairs or new equipment
Work with the IT team to address any technological needs or repairs
Ensure the school is following risk management rules
Ensure timesheets are accurate and turned in on time
Work with HR for all new hires and terminations

Other:

Perform other duties as assigned

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, related field, or equivalent training and experience required
Master’s degree & Administration credential preferred

Experience:

5+ years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level with a history of improving urban schools, increasing student achievement, and a passion for education reform
Previous leadership experience (department chair, Assistant Principal, Dean, etc.)

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Leadership and team-building skills
Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity
Must be flexible and team-oriented
Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
