JOB SUMMARY
Our Steel Estimator will be responsible for developing and engineering competitive structural steel, Miscellaneous steel, erection and installation processes and services. Steel Estimator will develop bids and budgets for customers in the mining, energy, and commercial markets.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Responsible for accurate material quantity take-off
- Quantifies number of shop and detailing hours to fabricate structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
- Determines installation schemes to establish crew sizes and duration.
- Evaluates all contract documents including all bid drawings, specifications, general conditions and if necessary, site visits.
- Determines scope of work for our trade and defines vague areas to qualify bids.
- Develops comprehensive and detailed proposal for the project estimated.
- Collaborate with outside vendors to request and receive project-specific pricing to meet firm deadlines.
- Posts bid negotiations with client and staff to determine final scopes of work and assigns values to items that may be revised or deleted.
- Posts bid “value engineering” to help negotiate final contracts with staff and client.
- Assists Project Management staff with pricing issues on major project revisions.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices including knowledge of structural shapes and general industry terminology
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents including design drawings and specification documents. Ability to read shop drawings a plus.
- Microsoft software applications including MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Emphasis on the ability to manipulate Excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with PDF review/editing software (Bluebeam, Acrobat)
- Experience with Tekla EPM (Fabsuite) and/or Fabtrol.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical and legal documents.
- Strong math and geometry skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting stringent deadlines.
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to focus on given tasks.
Preferred Experience
· Minimum of 5 years estimating experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication and erection.
· College Degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred
· Experience with miscellaneous metals preferred.
· Project Management experience preferred.
· Good language skills, both written and oral.
· Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Pay: $90,284.00 - $125,000.00 per year
