Full Job Description

Summary: The Employment Specialist is an integral part of the TotalLink team and is responsible for supporting job seekers to reach their employment goals in accordance with the mission and vision. Reporting to the Director of Programs and Employment Services, the Employment Specialist matches the job seeker's skillsets and passion/interests with job opportunities to meet the needs of both the job seeker and the employer. The Employment Specialist also supports the job seeker, their family/guardian(s), and the employer in the areas of communication, coordination, education, and on-the-job support. The Employment Specialist works collaboratively with the Employment team and will seek out support from the TotalLink team and supervisor on an ongoing basis.

Overview: The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing ongoing support to job seekers, their guardian(s)/family, and employers, utilizing the best practice principles of Customized and Supported Employment. The Employment Specialist will work with schools, communities, DRS, social service agencies, and business partners to support integrated and competitive employment for students and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Employment Specialist will conduct an assessment of the job seeker’s current level of functioning and collaborate with the job seeker and their team to write realistic, specific, and measurable goals. The Employment Specialist will create a step-by-step plan to teach, organize, and motivate the job seeker to progress toward their goals. The Employment Specialist will provide feedback to the job seeker and their team via email, face-to-face communication, written evaluation, and rewriting goals when appropriate.

Responsibilities:

Adheres to all TotalLink policies and procedures.

Provide Employment Services 65% of time
Conduct observations of job seekers.
Utilize social media and other communication and teaching tools (photos, videos, written descriptions) to develop teaching aids and marketing tools, including resumes, work samples, and video clips as needed.
Conduct job task analysis utilizing best practice principles and strategies.
Work with students, job seekers, parents, teachers, and employers on problems pertaining to job training, placement, and maintenance.
Assist in planning and executing vocational orientation, including on-site visits (e.g., job shadowing or job tryouts).
Develop comprehensive job seeker employment or skill profiles, including written reports of observations, strengths, learning styles, preferred environments, support needs, and ideal work conditions.
Maintain professional liaison with other vocational coordinators, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and pre-vocational supervisors.
In partnership with the family and job seeker, support the arrangement of sustainable transportation for job seekers related to customized employment and work.
Assist in making appropriate referrals for other services, including SSI benefits, further training, and/or other wrap-around support.
Collaborate with DRS counselors, colleagues, and parents to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs (including IEP meetings, staff team meetings, tri-annual transition planning meetings, and other assigned meetings.)
Develop natural supports, accommodations, adaptations, and job modifications used on job sites.
Monitor job seeker’s progress to support employment through problem-solving and communicating with employers and families.
Build and Support Employer Relationships 15% of time
Develop relationships with community businesses to identify new and diverse job opportunities.
Provide employer disability education.
Participate as a key member of the TotalLink team in relationship-building and serve as a contact with constituents, including job seekers, families, local school districts, partners, and TotalLink administrators.
In partnership with the Employment Services Director, Executive Director, Development Director, Program Committee, and the Board of Directors, steward effective partnerships with key stakeholders, including corporations, community officials, peer organizations, and other influential organizations among TotalLink stakeholder groups.
Cultivate a local identity that reflects TotalLink to Community’s core values and practices.
Paperwork 15% of time
Ensure confidential and accurate updates.
Maintain financial and program records (DRS reports and related expenses), including invoices and billing.
Develop and maintain adult job seeker records.
Assist in compiling necessary referral information on individuals referred to the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS).
Community Development 5% of time
Assist in maintaining public relations in the community through in-service presentations, cooperative planning and teamwork, and presentations at local organizational agencies and meetings, including Community Action Teams.
Be knowledgeable about and, on occasion, facilitate social and learning programs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Social Work, Social Services, or equivalent.
Three years of experience providing direct support to individuals with disabilities in the area of education, special education, and/or human services.
Ability to work effectively with various individuals within and outside of TotalLink.
Experience and skill in supporting young adults with disabilities, employers, families, and partners.
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
Demonstrate excellence in verbal, written, and project management skills.
Must possess a high level of energy and a can-do attitude.
Must be highly organized and have the ability to work competently and efficiently in a multi-task environment.
Advanced expertise required in Google Suite, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Acrobat DC, and comfort with technology.
Deadline and detail-oriented.
Demonstrates a passion for the mission and vision of TotalLink to Community.
Ability to interact diplomatically and tactfully with young adults with disabilities, stakeholders, and diverse groups.
Must have a car for travel.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Salary Range: $45,000 – $50,000
