Experienced Pipe Layer / Skilled Laborer – Underground Utilities
Penna Construction is seeking an experienced Pipe Layer / Skilled Laborer to join our growing team. We specialize in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utility infrastructure throughout Connecticut. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical projects for many of Connecticut's major utility companies and municipalities.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience installing and repairing water mains, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, and related underground utilities. Candidates must be comfortable working around heavy equipment, reading grades, and installing a variety of pipe materials and precast structures.
Sign-on/Retention Bonus:
- $1000 Sign-On Bonus after 3 months for Experienced Pipe Layer
- $1500 Retention Bonus after 6 months for Experienced Pipe Layer
Qualifications
- Experience installing and repairing the main water infrastructure
- Experience with sanitary sewer installation and rehabilitation
- Experience with storm drainage system installation and repair
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction practices
- Ability to work safely in and around trenches and excavations
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, driving record review, and background check
- Authorized to work in the United States
Responsibilities
- Assist with locating existing underground utilities
- Support water main taps, tie-ins, and service installations
- Set and align pipe, fittings, valves, and drainage structures
- Verify grades and slopes to meet project specifications
- Connect and seal pipe joints using mechanical, gasketed, and solvent-weld methods
- Guide equipment operators during trench excavation and pipe installation
- Install water mains, force mains, sanitary sewers, storm drainage systems, and precast structures
- Backfill and compact trenches using proper materials and equipment
- Cut, fit, and assemble piping systems according to plans and specifications
- Supporting the on-call emergency schedule for after hour emergencies
- Maintain a safe and productive work environment
