Full Job Description

The Technical Drafter, Crane by Northeast is responsible for translating architectural drawings into precise, production-ready shop drawings that guide the fabrication of custom cabinetry and millwork. Working at the intersection of design intent and manufacturing execution, the Technical Drafter reads and interprets architectural elevations, renderings, and blueprints to produce detailed AutoCAD drawings that communicate proper joinery, assembly methods, and active hardware details in accordance with Crane by Northeast drafting conventions. Other responsibilities may be assigned and additional training provided over time. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Operations, Crane by Northeast.

Responsibilities specific to the Technical Drafter:

Receive and review incoming project documentation including architectural drawings, elevations, renderings, and blueprints. Assess the scope of each project to develop a thorough understanding of the design intent, spatial relationships, and product specifications required prior to beginning shop drawings.

Produce detailed shop drawings in AutoCAD that translate architectural design intent into manufacturing instructions. Drawings must clearly communicate joinery methods, assembly sequences, active hardware details, and all dimensions required for accurate fabrication. All drawings are to be completed in accordance with Crane by Northeast drafting conventions and standards.

Collaborate with the production team to ensure shop drawings reflect current material availability, manufacturing capabilities, and lead time constraints. Identify and resolve potential conflicts between design intent and production requirements before drawings are released to the shop floor.

Manage drawing revisions accurately and efficiently. Track revision history, maintain organized drawing files, and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner to avoid downstream delays in manufacturing.

Participate in project kickoff and design review meetings with Sales, Project Management, and Production teams as needed. Contribute technical drafting expertise to support accurate scoping, scheduling, and sequencing of custom projects.

Continuously develop knowledge of cabinetry and millwork construction methods, materials, hardware systems, and industry standards. Apply this knowledge to improve drawing accuracy, reduce fabrication errors, and support continuous improvement of Crane by Northeast drafting conventions.

· Execution of daily operational duties including: product organization, shop cleanliness and inventory cycle counts.

· Keep all machinery, equipment, and tools clean and in good working order for safe usage.

· Inform Crane General Manager promptly of suspected inventory shortage.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience in technical drafting for custom cabinetry, millwork, or a related woodworking or architectural products category — minimum 2 years
Proficiency in AutoCAD required
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, renderings, and construction blueprints
Working knowledge of cabinetry and millwork construction methods, joinery, hardware systems, and materials
Familiarity with Crane by Northeast or comparable custom shop drafting conventions preferred
Design ability and experience with 3D modeling or rendering software a plus
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Motivated, organized, detail oriented, and collaborative
Ability to write, read, and communicate in English

Pay: $38.50 - $45.00 per hour
