Our growing company is seeking to hire a Construction Instructor to provide hands-on skills training and classroom instruction via our signature Urban Handyperson curriculum to participants enrolled in our various workforce training programs. Your role as an instructor can and will be an extremely influential one. You are the key instrument on which the environment in your classroom functions and are expected to meet the needs of your students. As an Urban Handyperson Construction Training Instructor you must always remember safety first for yourself, the students, the clients and the community as a whole. You must demonstrate a passion and proficiency for the technical trade you will be teaching. You will be responsible for teaching students about basic and advanced construction skills, building techniques, methods, and practices.
A successful applicant should be hardworking, reliable, and have good communication and organizational skills. A professional instructor should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. They should be able to work closely with project managers to create comprehensive action plans concerning curriculum development, lesson plans, classroom training delivery, and overall leadership. Instructors have a responsibility to establish and maintain a civil, productive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment. Instructors should also have a fundamental obligation to respect the instructional setting as a place for civil, courteous discourse.
Construction Training Instructor Responsibilities:
- Help prepare for instruction(s), verifying all materials, tools and equipment are in a safe efficient working order before class and ensuring materials are properly stored post class.
- Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment. Staying current with the latest construction industry practices and technologies, and incorporating them into the curriculum.
- Participate in curriculum design meetings and propose improvements if necessary.
- Researching, developing and delivering educational materials, such as lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practices.
- Conduct classroom training related to installation of sheetrock, drywall, doors, windows, cabinets, stairs, and other fixtures as curriculum designates.
- Administering exams, evaluating students' progress, reporting potential issues and providing feedback on participant performance using the Soulful Synergy Student Assessment forms.
- Providing support to students such as; mentoring and guiding them towards their career goals, offering one-on-one tutorials and answering questions with patience and professionalism.
- Evaluate potential problems and technical hitches to develop alternative solutions.
Construction Training Instructor Requirements:
- Three years of general construction experience, trades, home improvement or in a related field.
- Physically fit with good hand-eye coordination and safety awareness.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.
- Time management skills and the ability to meet program/project deadlines.
