Since 1966 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut has been changing the lives of children across Connecticut. As an independent 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the nation's oldest youth mentoring organization, the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Through the excellence of our programs and the commitment of our volunteers and staff, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut is recognized widely as the "face" of child and youth mentoring in the state of Connecticut. Each year, BBBS of CT offers high-quality mentoring services to approximately 1,000 children and youth across Connecticut

The Position

The Foster Grandparent Coordinator (full time: 35 flexible hours a week) will be a dynamic, resourceful professional responsible for building relationships with senior centers, senior volunteers, schools, head-start centers, and the community. Program responsibilities will include recruitment, screening, and training volunteers, assigning volunteers to mentoring sites, and supporting volunteers, teachers, and children to ensure successful outcomes for children enrolled. Focusing on the viewpoints and needs of volunteers, partner agencies, teachers, and children is critical to success in this role. Readiness and ability to support program sites in Greater Hartford and Eastern CT will also be crucial to success.

Position Responsibilities

Adhere to Agency and AmeriCorps Seniors standards for service delivery, with priority to child safety.
Recruit senior citizen volunteers for program sites in both Greater Hartford & Eastern CT.
Process applications for volunteers with supporting documentation.
Conduct volunteer interviews and orientation.
Effectively match volunteer interests and qualifications with FGP program sites.
Facilitate placement of approved volunteers.
Maintain regular contact with volunteers through phone calls and volunteer site visits.
Use performance measurement metrics established by AmeriCorps Seniors to track progress.
Identify child safety issues for volunteers, and conduct training on such.
Track and document the progress of volunteers' performance.
Schedule and conduct (bi-lingual) in-service training programs for volunteers.
Ensure meaningful partnerships with volunteers, program site supervisors, and other community members.
Maintain accurate files for each volunteer and volunteer program site (including Memorandums of Understanding).
Enter information into the Agency system within one workday of receipt to ensure accuracy.
Translate documents for volunteers (from English to Spanish).

Secondary Responsibilities

Represent agency and Foster Grandparent Program at assigned meetings.
Greater Hartford & Eastern Connecticut travel for recruiting volunteers and site visits.
Occasional early evening and weekend hours will be required.
Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Bilingual speaking and writing skills (English and Spanish) are required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent lived or professional experience strongly considered
At least 2 years in youth services, case management, education, or a related field
Experience in trauma-informed care or youth development preferred
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

Strong interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage a dynamic caseload while maintaining fidelity to safety and compliance protocols
Cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion
Strong written communication and case documentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based systems (Salesforce preferred)
